Medicaid Specialist / Paralegal

A legal practice in Hauppauge, NY, is seeking an experienced Medicaid Specialist / Paralegal to support institutional and community-based Medicaid matters. This is a full-time, on-site position with a 35-hour work week and requires hands-on experience preparing and filing New York Medicaid applications.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and submit institutional Medicaid applications.
• Prepare and submit community-based/home care Medicaid applications.
• Maintain Medicaid cases and agency deadlines.
• Gather required documentation from clients, families, and financial institutions.
• Communicate with Medicaid agencies regarding application requirements and case status.
• Assist attorneys with Medicaid matters and client communications.
• Track outstanding documentation and follow up as needed.
• Maintain organized and accurate case files.
• Assist with telephone calls and appointment scheduling.
• Support Medicaid planning and asset-protection matters involving income and resource guidelines, Promissory Notes, and Managed Long Term Care procedures.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

• At least 2 years of experience preparing and filing institutional and community-based/home care Medicaid applications.
• Direct New York Medicaid experience.
• Experience with institutional Medicaid and community-based/home care Medicaid.
• Knowledge of Medicaid income and resource guidelines.
• Familiarity with Promissory Notes and Managed Long-Term Care procedures.
• Experience managing Medicaid deadlines and agency requirements.
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Comfort working with elderly clients and their families.
• Microsoft Word proficiency.
• Time Matters experience is preferred.
• Ability to work onsite in Hauppauge five days per week.

Candidate Assessment

• Candidates will be required to complete a Medicaid Test/Questionnaire as part of the evaluation process. The assessment covers practical New York Medicaid planning topics, including lookback rules, financial transaction review, spousal Medicaid eligibility, transfer penalties, penalty-period rules, IRA distributions, revocable trusts, exempt transfers, caregiver-child transfers, and Promissory Notes.

• Compensation: $40.00–$43.00 per hour
• Benefits: Employer-paid portion of health insurance, 56 hours of sick leave per year prorated based on hiring date, three weeks of vacation, and a 401(k) retirement plan.

This opportunity is well suited for an experienced Medicaid paralegal with substantive application experience who is comfortable managing multiple cases, deadlines, documentation requirements, and client communications.

Salary Range: $72,800 - $78,260
