PARALEGAL

FUNCTION DESCRIPTION:
Processes and compiles a variety of records for subpoena and court ordered requests for production in a timely, accurate and professional manner. Maintains thorough knowledge of all Credit Union records and the subpoena process. Maintains and manages a steady caseload of subpoenas and various records requests. Communicates effectively with a variety of law offices and government agencies. Assists with any litigation-related matters (including arbitration) as it relates to the filing of documents (e.g., motions, affidavits, answers, etc.), as well as compiling documents for requests or depositions.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Certificate in paralegal studies preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of paralegal experience in a law firm or in-house legal department
Litigation/arbitration experience a plus
Skills: Excellent written/verbal communication skills, and the ability to prepare legal forms and letters as needed
Outstanding problem solving/decision making skills
Ability to handle confidential information
Strong attention to detail
Highly developed ability to manage time, tasks, deadlines, and shifting priorities
Proficiency in using various computer systems, including Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Excel
Ability to interact with others in a positive manner both in person, by email and by phone
Equipment: PC, printer, copier, fax, telephone, calculator
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Receive and review subpoenas for adherence to required components per Colorado and federal law, including proper service of the subpoena.
2. Assess and log accepted subpoenas for production of records and maintaining staff calendars with the applicable deadlines.
3. Update, maintain and manage a steady subpoena caseload and all applicable files.
4. Process, compile and submit all records requested and follow up with requesting parties when needed.
5. Prepare and arrange records for proper presentation and adherence to all applicable rules and policies.
6. Manage and assign case load to team members as needed and monitor work activities to ensure work quality, accuracy and compliance with applicable laws, rules, policies and procedures.
7. Draft responses, objections and requests pertaining to subpoenas received and respond to any inquiries pertaining to the subpoena caseload.
8. Schedule telephone, video conferencing and court appearances, and maintain staff calendars accordingly.
9. Attend court appearances or depositions when needed as custodian of records, if applicable.
10. Maintain confidentiality of customer related information and adhere to all applicable laws, regulations and policies.
11. Develop schedules and methods for performing assigned duties; maintain appropriate work records and documents, and compile information for annual or similar reports as needed.
12. Assist with the Vendor Due Diligence process, as requested.
13. Assist with the Compliance function, as requested.
14. Assist with the BSA function, as requested.
