JOB SUMMARY

The Pantry Worker performs the day-to-day work of The Salvation Army food pantry in Pahrump. This is a hands-on, physical position responsible for receiving and picking up food donations, stocking and rotating shelves, assembling and distributing food boxes to clients, and keeping the pantry and storage areas clean, organized, and safe. The Pantry Worker greets every client with dignity and respect and represents The Salvation Army well to the community.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Prior experience in a food pantry, warehouse, stockroom, grocery, or food service setting; willingness to learn and follow instruction is essential.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances with courtesy, patience, and respect.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and complete assigned tasks with minimal reminders.
  • Ability to perform physical work on a continuous basis, including lifting, carrying, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Basic reading, counting, and recordkeeping skills sufficient to log donations, track inventory, and record client services accurately.
  • Basic computer skills preferred; experience with HMIS, Excel, or Outlook is a plus.
  • Experience operating a pallet jack, hand truck, or forklift preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Nevada driver’s license with a clean driving record and be able to safely operate a Salvation Army vehicle.
  • Food Handler Safety Training Card required, or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be available to work a flexible part-time schedule, including occasional evenings and Saturdays.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive, sort, weigh, and log incoming food donations and deliveries.
  • Stock and rotate shelves, coolers, and freezers; pull expired or damaged product.
  • Keep storage areas organized, labeled, and safely stacked.
  • Assist with inventory counts and notify the supervisor of low supplies.
  • Pick up donations from grocery stores, food banks, and community donors.
  • Load, transport, and unload goods using a vehicle, hand truck, pallet jack, or forklift.
  • Assemble and distribute food boxes to clients and assist them to their vehicles.
  • Complete client sign-in sheets, intake forms, and donation logs.
  • Refer clients seeking additional assistance to the appropriate staff member.
  • Assist with holiday and special food distributions.
  • Clean and sanitize the pantry, storage, and distribution areas; sweep, mop, break down boxes, and remove trash.
  • Assist shoppers and pantry volunteers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation. This position is physically demanding. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull, and reach with hands and arms on a continuous basis, and may stand or walk for extended periods. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will work in and around refrigerated and freezer areas and may be exposed to inclement weather and outdoor temperatures during donation pickups and distributions. Requires the ability to communicate with internal and/or external customers and to operate a telephone and standard pantry equipment.
