Job Description Summary
The Reporter researches, reports on, and produces one story per week for their assigned section. Sections include news, features & entertainment, sports, and music.
Responsibilities
Research and Write Articles:
Develop Chapman centric story ideas and pitches on a regular basis.
Ensure all content is accurate, unbiased, and well-researched
Conduct Interviews:
Identify and interview relevant sources to gather information and quotes for articles.
Build relationships with key contacts and sources within the community.
Work with Section Editors:
Collaborate with section editors to refine story ideas and angles.
Revise and edit articles based on feedback from editors.
Attend weekly staff meetings.
Meet Publication Deadlines:
Ensure all assignments are completed by deadlines.
Handle multiple stories and pitches.
Cover Events and News:
Attend and report on campus events, meetings, and other newsworthy activities.
Write articles.
1 story per week unless otherwise communicated.
Provide live coverage or updates for breaking news stories when required.
Required Qualifications
Background in journalism.
Ability to maintain professionalism and uphold ethical reporting standards.
Desired Qualifications
Prior experience with The Panther or a comparable publication.
Special Instructions to Applicants
