Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary
The Reporter researches, reports on, and produces one story per week for their assigned section. Sections include news, features & entertainment, sports, and music.

Responsibilities
Research and Write Articles:
  • Develop Chapman centric story ideas and pitches on a regular basis.
  • Ensure all content is accurate, unbiased, and well-researched
Conduct Interviews:
  • Identify and interview relevant sources to gather information and quotes for articles.
  • Build relationships with key contacts and sources within the community.
Work with Section Editors:
  • Collaborate with section editors to refine story ideas and angles.
  • Revise and edit articles based on feedback from editors.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings.
Meet Publication Deadlines:
  • Ensure all assignments are completed by deadlines.
  • Handle multiple stories and pitches.
Cover Events and News:
  • Attend and report on campus events, meetings, and other newsworthy activities.
  • Write articles.
    • 1 story per week unless otherwise communicated.
  • Provide live coverage or updates for breaking news stories when required.

Required Qualifications
  • Background in journalism.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and uphold ethical reporting standards.

Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience with The Panther or a comparable publication.

Special Instructions to Applicants
Required work samples should include relevant writing, reporting, and/or editing.
