Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary
The Opinions Editor is responsible for recruiting weekly guest columns and writing weekly columns. This positions also must be able to attend weekly staff and editorial board meetings throughout each semester.

Responsibilities
Content Development:
  • Ideate and execute special multimedia projects.
    • Oversee all forms of content related to op-eds, guest essays, etc., but not content for News, Features and other parts of the Panther.
  • Spearheading, sourcing, or launching local investigative reports.
  • Collaborate with writers, photographers, designers, and other contributors to produce high-quality multimedia content.
Outreach and Partnerships:
  • Identify and maintain partnerships with external organizations to source additional multimedia content.
    • CSBN, Chapman Radio, Chapman News, CoPA, etc.
  • Student Voices
    • First-person narratives and opinion pieces from students on a variety of topics.
    • Spotlights on unique student experiences, hobbies, and achievements.
  • Opinion Columns
    • Regular columns by staff writers and guest contributors on current issues and personal perspectives.
    • Open forums for reader submissions and letters to the editor.

Required Qualifications
  • Background in journalism.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and uphold ethical reporting standards.

Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience with The Panther or a comparable publication.
  • Familiarity with AP Style.
