Palliative Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner

Why Rady Children’s Health-Orange County? Come join an organization that is defining the future of pediatric medicine in clinical care, research, and education. We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner for our Palliative Care Division. With demonstrated abilities in the fundamentals of pediatric palliative care, this candidate will function in an advanced practitioner role as a clinical expert in the management of pediatric patients appropriate for palliative care within a family-centered care environment.
Partnering with the palliative care team, under the direction of the palliative care physician, and practicing within developed standardized procedures and process protocols, the nurse practitioner will assess, evaluate and make recommendations for the management of children with serious and complicated illnesses. While it is preferred that the nurse practitioner will have previous pediatric palliative care experience and robust symptom management experience (both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic) it is not a requirement. However, in-depth knowledge and clinical expertise in communication and emotional intelligence is necessary. Much of the time spent will be on assisting patients and families with medical decision making and working to support them throughout the continuum of care and through all stages of illness, including end-of-life. They will collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure safe, effective, and cohesive delivery of care aligned with patient and family wishes. Additional responsibilities include staff support and education, coordination of patients’ care, and creation of policies and procedures related to the practice of palliative care for both in and outpatient settings. It is important to note that this position is both in and out-patient with a heavy focus on symptom management and care coordination. The nurse practitioner will function as a consultant educator and role model for CHOC and community health professionals.

The successful candidate will be a CA licensed with at least one year of experience in direct pediatric patient care as a nurse practitioner. The candidate must demonstrate excellent communication skills above all else.

We offer an excellent benefits package including competitive compensation, CME allowance, comprehensive medical/dental/vision plans and a 401k Retirement Plan with an employer contribution independent of a salary deduction.

Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements.
