The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is seeking a motivated and experienced candidate for the role of Painter I to maintain both the interior and exterior painting needs in all building structures at the Wrentham Developmental Center (WDC). The building surfaces are a variety of wood, brick, stucco, and they require sanding, caulking, patching, and refinishing.Duties and Responsibilities (The duties and responsibilities stated are general summary and not all inclusive):Paints all wood, metal, concrete interior and exterior surfaces, signs by means of a brush or spraying equipment in accordance with supervisor's instructions. Prepares surfaces for painting by stripping old paint, priming, sanding, washing, taping, compounding new sheetrock to insure proper application of paint. Staining and varnishing of old and new interior and exterior surfaces in accordance with supervisor's instructions. Glazing of windows by proprer procuedures. Erect ladders and staging.Repairs walls, patches holes, puttying and caulking.Refinishes furnature.Hangs wallpaper.Required Qualifications:Considerable knowledge of tools, materials, methods and standard practices used in the painting trade.Considerable knowledge of methods of preparing wood, metal, glass, plaster, cement, and other materials and surfaces painting. Ability to apply paint and other finish by brush or air gun, and to mix and match paint.Ability to climb and work from scaffolding or at some distance above the ground.Ability to understand and execute oral and written orders with immediate supervision. Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge of tools, materials, methods, and standard practices used in the painting trade.Understand methods in preparing wood, metal, glass, plaster, cement and other materials and surfaces for painting.Ability to understand and follow written or oral work instructions.Please Note:This position is located at the Wrentham Developmental Center located in Wrentham, MA.Full-time 40-hour weekly position Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.Days off – Sunday and Saturday Flexibility required to meet the needs of the program/area office.About the Department of Developmental Services:

Minimum Entrance Requirements:
Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in painting work, or (B) the substitution below.
Substitutions:
I. A diploma or certificate from a recognized trade, technical or vocational school at the high school level or higher with a major in painting may be substituted for the required experience.
Special Requirements:
Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Rigger's License issued by the Department of Labor and Industries (Division of Industrial Safety) may be required.Incumbents are required to possess a current and valid motor vehicle driver’s license at a class level specific to assignment.Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines.
