Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

Painters are responsible for:

  • Painters preserve the hull and components by sealing the submarines with chemicals and paints that prevent corrosion and protect against the accumulation of marine life.
  • Prepare the surface, mix and apply a variety of paints and finishes, such as baked on plastics, vinyl, and epoxy paints.
  • Paint thickness must be measured and documented. This requirement makes it essential that the Painter maintain a high level of quality.
  • Candidates must be able to sandblast, use pneumatic tools, roll brush and spray paint.
  • Candidates must be able to perform strenuous task for long durations
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces and elevated areas.
  • Must be able to obtain respiratory qualifications and maintain them
  • Willing to travel to support off-site work.
  • Must be able to work all shifts.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Must have a High School Diploma, GED, or have 2+ years related technical experience
  • 0-5 years of relevant experience
  • Must be available for all shifts.
  • Successful completion of the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board (EWIB) Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative training program if applicable

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of hazardous material and environmental policies
  • 6 months of painting experience
  • Vocational or Technical schools with manufacturing or trades focus, Apprentice Programs, Military, Shipbuilding, Manufacturing, and Automotive experience

The world’s first and finest submarine builder, Electric Boat was established in 1899 to complete the U.S. Navy’s first modern commissioned submarine, USS Holland. Designed and built by Electric Boat, USS Nautilus, the world’s first nuclear-powered submarine, was launched in 1954.
