Objective:

The Painter is responsible for preparing, coating, finishing, and inspecting structural steel and miscellaneous metal components in accordance with company quality standards, customer specifications, and safety requirements. This role supports shop production by ensuring materials are properly cleaned, coated, cured, and protected for shipment and installation.

Essential Duties (other duties may be assigned):

·Prepare steel components for coating through cleaning, grinding, sanding, masking, and surface preparation activities.

·Apply powder coating and/or industrial paint finishes to structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and fabricated components using spray equipment and related tools.

·Operate powder coating systems, spray booths, curing ovens, and associated equipment safely and efficiently.

·Verify proper coating thickness, finish quality, color consistency, and cure requirements.

·Perform touch-up work, rework, and final finish corrections as needed.

·Maintain cleanliness and organization of paint booths, coating areas, and equipment.

·Follow all OSHA, company safety, PPE, and environmental compliance requirements related to coatings and hazardous materials.

·Read and interpret shop drawings, work orders, coating specifications, and production schedules.

·Assist with material handling, staging, loading, and movement of steel components as required.

·Conduct routine maintenance and cleaning of spray guns, hoses, filters, and coating equipment.

·Identify coating defects or production concerns and communicate issues to supervision.

·Work collaboratively with fabrication, welding, and production teams to meet project deadlines.

Education/Experience:

·Previous experience in industrial painting, powder coating, or steel fabrication preferred.

·Knowledge of surface preparation and coating application techniques.

·Ability to safely operate spray equipment, powder coating systems, and shop tools.

·Ability to read tape measures and basic shop drawings preferred.

·Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship.

·Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.

·Forklift and overhead crane experience preferred.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here reflect those an employee typically encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This position works primarily in a steel fabrication shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, moving equipment, and varying weather conditions. Strict adherence to safety procedures and PPE requirements is mandatory.

Employees will routinely work in a non-climate-controlled shop and in commercial vehicles, with regular exposure to dust, noise, and varying temperatures. The noise level may range from moderate to high in shop environments, and the use of hearing protection and adherence to all company Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) policies is required.   • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, twisting, and reaching.
    • Ability to sit for long periods of time while operating a vehicle.
  • Ability to work in outdoor conditions (heat, cold, rain) and around loud equipment.
  • Ability to safely work around moving machinery, overhead cranes, and industrial equipment.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe footwear.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may include exposure to noise, dust, vibration, temperature changes, and fumes.
  • Ability to maintain visual acuity and depth perception necessary for safe equipment operation, with or without reasonable accommodations. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. The core operating hours are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and every other Saturday if needed Hours of work may change based upon the needs of the business.
