Job Description

POSITION OBJECTIVE

Under supervision of the Director of Engineering, the Painter shall apply coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of building and structures. Maintains and contributes to a positive work environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Provide guest service in a positive and helpful manner.
  • Smooth surfaces and removes old paint from surfaces to prepare them for painting and/or wallpapering.
  • Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other filler.
  • Spreads drop cloths over floors and furnishings, and covers surfaces such as baseboards, doorframes, and windows with masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during preparation and painting. Removes fixtures such as pictures and light switch covers from walls prior to painting.
  • Selects premixed paints, or mixes required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors.
  • Paints surfaces with brushes, rollers, or spray gun. Applies materials with cloth, brush, sponge, or fingers to create special effects.
  • Simulates wood grain, marble, brick, or tile effects.
  • Wallpapers wall surfaces and refinishes furniture. Erects scaffolding or sets up ladders to perform tasks above ground level.
  • Coordinate painting activities with other departments.
  • Work scheduled shifts, report to work on time, and comply with the hotel’s dress code.
  • Follows and supports Service Commitment and Core Values.
  • Perform all work in adherence with applicable safety laws and regulations. Store all hazardous chemicals in approved containers.
  • Assist Engineers and Landscaping department as directed.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Three years minimum on the job painting/Sheetrocking

REQUIREMENTS

  • Be able to read and interpret blueprints, operating and maintenance instructions, safety rules, and procedure manuals.
  • Be able to safely use hand and power tools.
  • Be able to use communication equipment such as pagers, radios, and phones; and, be able to communicate effectively through written routine reports and correspondence as well as to speak effectively before customers and employees.
  • Be able to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Also, able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
