Frostburg State University, Physical Plant Department, seeks applications for a full-time, non-exempt Painter position. Salary range 9 and includes USM benefits package.

Responsibilities Under general supervision, perform a variety of painting and painting-related work at the journey level. Apply coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces. Prepare surfaces for painting by scraping, burning, sandpapering or dissolving previous paint coatings. Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk or putty. Tapes, spackles, and finishes dry wall. Operate and maintain tools and equipment of the painting trade; clean work area upon completion of projects. Work includes drywall finishing and other surface preparation as well as the selection, mixing, and matching of various paint materials. May have lead worker responsibility during special projects or seasons. Painters are expected to assist with snow and ice removal in certain situations.

Minimum Qualifications: Four years of progressively responsible experience in the painting trade.

Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to safely work at heights using ladders, lifts, rigging, and scaffolding. Proficiency in the use, maintenance, and handling of painting tools and equipment, including the ability to lift and manipulate materials and exert force up to 70 lbs. Valid non-commercial driver’s license. Comprehensive knowledge of painting methods and techniques, OSHA regulations related to the trade, and basic mathematics (including area, volume, weights, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions). Ability to plan, schedule, and lay out work; accurately perceive the full color spectrum; prepare summaries and reports; and communicate effectively while following oral and written instructions. Ability to work in, on, around, over, and under fixed equipment and machinery; operate multiple equipment controls; and perform duties in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions, including the use of required personal protective equipment.

Other: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
