Purpose/Description
Painters perform a variety of journeyman painting work such as preparing surfaces, mixing and matching paints and stains, painting interiors and exteriors, application and knowledge of floor epoxy coatings and other related duties in the Roads Maintenance Division Building Maintenance section.
Required Tasks
Paint, prep, repair interior and exterior surfaces with various implements.
Mix and match paint and stains.
Paint wooden and metal surfaces with spray gun and brush.
Drywall mudding and taping.
Maintain equipment.
Erect and work from scaffolding - working at heights.
Proper use of floor epoxy.
Operate airless sprayers, self-contained paint machines and other related equipment.
Keep a neat and clean work area.
Refinish furniture.
Replace broken glass in windows.
Work under supervision of a Foreperson or Supervisor who makes work assignments and checks working process upon completion.
Other related duties and tasks as assigned.
Educational/Experience Requirements
Driver’s license with a Safe and Acceptable Driving Record (No more than 7 points); AND
At least five years full-time paid experience as a painter (must include washing, scraping, burning, sandpapering surfaces preparatory to painting; painting both the interior and exterior of buildings; painting wooden and metal surfaces with a brush and spray gun; puttying small defects in woodwork; replacing broken glass in windows; refinishing furniture; and erecting and working from scaffolding to paint buildings) OR
Completion of a formal apprentice training program for the painter trade.
