Citizenship / Access Requirements: Must satisfy all VA credentialing, privileging, suitability, PIV, privacy, information-security, occupational-health, and facility-access requirements applicable to the position.
Security Requirements: No classified clearance is specified. VA background/suitability screening, credentialing, PIV/access procedures, and required privacy and information-security training apply.
Estimated Compensation: $57.19 per hour.
Working Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, with flexibility for unscheduled patients, consultations, interruptions, and continuity of care.
Work Arrangement: Primarily on-site at the Manhattan and Brooklyn VA campuses. Limited clinical telehealth may be provided through VA-approved platforms when directed by the COR; this is not general work-from-home authorization.
Travel: Occasional travel between the Manhattan and Brooklyn VA campuses may be required based on patient volume.
Period of Performance: September 30, 2026 through September 29, 2031, including four option periods.
The Pain Physical Therapist will provide specialized chronic-pain physical therapy and functional-restoration services for VA beneficiaries. The role includes evaluation, treatment planning, therapeutic intervention, pain-neuroscience education, adaptive-equipment assessment, group care, telehealth when authorized, interdisciplinary coordination, and complete VA clinical documentation.
Graduation from a CAPTE-accredited physical therapy education program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice physical therapy in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
At least two years of hospital, ambulatory, or equivalent chronic-pain physical therapy experience.
GS-13 Clinical Specialist equivalency demonstrated through at least 2,000 chronic-pain clinical hours during the prior two to five years, ABPTS board certification, a related fellowship, or an advanced related degree.
Current Basic Life Support certification.
National Provider Identifier and ability to complete VA credentialing and privileging requirements.
Fluency in spoken and written English and proficiency with CPRS/VistA and VA Video Connect.
Evaluate physical, functional, mobility, and chronic-pain needs and develop individualized plans of care.
Provide therapeutic exercise, neuromuscular re-education, gait and functional training, graded exposure, and pain-neuroscience education.
Deliver individual and group chronic-pain services in person and through VA Video Connect when authorized.
Evaluate and recommend adaptive equipment, mobility aids, wheelchair seating, and positioning needs.
Provide specialty interventions within competence, including applicable modalities, wound or lymphedema care, pelvic health, or aquatic therapy.
Educate patients and families regarding home programs, function, safety, self-management, and treatment goals.
Coordinate care with the interdisciplinary pain-management team and other VA services.
Document evaluations, treatment, progress, outcomes, and discharge recommendations accurately in VA systems.
Current curriculum vitae detailing education, training, employment, VA experience, and chronic-pain experience.
Physical therapy degree and accreditation documentation.
Current unrestricted PT license, Basic Life Support certification, and applicable ABPTS/fellowship/advanced-degree documentation.
