Office of the Senate Secretary

General Summary

The Office of the Secretary is accepting applications for a Senate Page Program Coordinator to oversee the Senate Page Program. The Senate Page Program is a long-established, prestigious public service program for Florida students aged 15-18. Students who are accepted into the Program each spend a week serving the Florida Senate during the Regular Legislative Session.

This is a full-time position, requiring independent work coordinating administrative tasks and assignments. The successful candidate will undergo a Level 2 criminal background screening by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Facilitating program activities such as lesson plans, tours of government buildings, and deliveries within the Senate.
  • Teaching topics such as the legislative process, public speaking, and the Florida Constitution.
  • Managing student applications and communications related to the program
  • Processing confidential information.
  • Responding to time-sensitive requests.
  • Scheduling visits with senators and other elected officials.
  • Training and supervising two (2) Temporary Session OPS employees who will assist with the program activities.
  • Maintains administrative records and prepares status reports.
  • Assists in formulating, interpreting, applying, and assuring conformance with administrative policies and procedures.
  • Reviews and monitors seminars and workshops presented and conducts studies to improve effectiveness and efficiency of training programs.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

  • Knowledge of administrative principles, practices
  • Knowledge of research techniques.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and review work for accuracy and quality of content.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a team member and to contribute to the efficient internal functioning of the unit.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the demands of the public.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Ability to understand and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to prepare reports, correspondence, and maintain records.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to train others.
  • Ability to supervise people.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Administrative experience can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

Commensurate with experience.
