Job Description

Job Title: Paediatric Special School Speech and Language Therapist
Banding: Band 6/7
Location: Swanley
Start Date: ASAP
Rate: £35.00–£42.00 per hour
Working Hours: Full-time or Part-time

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) to join a specialist day school in Swanley, supporting children and young people aged 8–19 with moderate to severe learning difficulties and autism. Many pupils also present with additional needs such as ADHD, Down syndrome, and significant language challenges.

The school is set within an exceptional seventy-eight-acre site, offering extensive green spaces, woodlands, a Forest School, and purpose-built playground and sports areas—creating a therapeutic and enriching environment for pupils and staff alike.

As a Band 6/7 therapist, you will play a central role in assessing, delivering, and evaluating high-quality interventions that support communication development and maximise each young person’s potential.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Assess, diagnose, and deliver evidence-based interventions for children and young people with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), autism, and complex learning difficulties.

  • Develop and implement individualised therapy plans in collaboration with the teaching and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Provide specialist advice and recommendations to support pupils’ communication across the school day.

  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive clinical records in line with professional and organisational standards.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, reviews, and staff consultations.

  • Offer support, guidance, or supervision to junior staff or assistants (Band 7 level).

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).

  • HCPC registration and eligibility for membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).

  • Experience working with children and young people with autism, learning disabilities, or complex needs.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary setting.

  • A proactive, reflective, and child-centred approach to practice.
