We are currently seeking an experienced and passionate Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist to work within specialist school settings in the North East, supporting children and young people with moderate to severe learning disabilities, including Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD), Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), and complex communication needs. Many pupils use or require Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
These special school environments provide highly tailored education and therapeutic support for pupils with complex needs. In this role, you will:
Assess, diagnose, and manage children and young people with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), including complex needs associated with PMLD, ASC, and severe learning disabilities.
Deliver and review individualised therapy programmes, including AAC interventions, in collaboration with education and clinical teams.
Work closely with teachers, support staff, families, and other professionals to embed communication strategies across the school day.
Maintain accurate, timely, and professional clinical documentation in line with HCPC and RCSLT standards.
Contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings, reviews, and care planning.
To be considered for this role, you must have:
A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).
HCPC registration and eligibility for membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
Experience working with children with complex needs, including PMLD, ASC, and AAC (Band 6/7 level).
Strong communication, teamwork, and clinical reasoning skills.
