Job Title: Paediatric Community Speech and Language Therapist
Banding: Band 6
Location: Mid Essex – Covering Chelmsford, Braintree, Maldon and surrounding areas
Start Date: ASAP
Rate: £24.00–£27.50 per hour
Working Hours: Full Time (37.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday) or Part Time Considered
Duration: Minimum 6 months

We are currently seeking an experienced Band 6 Paediatric Community Speech and Language Therapist to join a community-based service in Mid Essex. The role is based in Chelmsford with travel required across Chelmsford, Braintree, Maldon and surrounding areas.

This position involves working with children and young people with a range of speech, language, and communication needs, including autism and special educational needs. The successful candidate will deliver therapy within schools and community settings, undertaking autonomous lone working while receiving wider team support via local bases and virtual platforms such as Microsoft Teams.

This is an excellent opportunity for a confident and experienced paediatric therapist who is comfortable managing a varied caseload within a community setting.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Assess children and young people’s speech, language, and communication needs.

  • Deliver targeted interventions for phonology, language disorders, alternative and augmentative communication (AAC), and other speech and language difficulties (excluding dysphagia).

  • Undertake Section F provisions of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

  • Write termly care plans and detailed clinical reports.

  • Contribute to multidisciplinary care planning and liaise closely with parents, teachers, and other professionals.

  • Deliver therapy addressing communication, sensory, fine motor, gross motor, and related needs within school settings.

  • Visit schools and community settings across Essex.

  • Offer clinical support and guidance to lower banded members of the SLT team where appropriate.

  • Maintain accurate clinical records (experience with SystmOne is desirable, though training can be provided).

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).

  • HCPC registration.

  • A minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification experience (Band 6 level).

  • Experience working with children and young people with speech and language difficulties, autism, and special educational needs.

  • Sensory integration training relevant to paediatric practice.

  • Experience delivering therapy within school settings.

  • Strong report writing skills and experience contributing to EHCP documentation.

  • The ability to work independently and undertake lone working in schools and homes.

  • A valid UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle for community visits.
