The Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service (DYHS) was established in 1974 and is the largest Aboriginal community-controlled health service provider in Western Australia, providing care to over 20,000 Aboriginal patients across four clinics in East Perth, Mirrabooka, Maddington and Midland. About the Position

We are seeking expressions of interest for a Paediatric Case Officer to coordinate and manage specialist paediatric clinics, ensuring seamless care for children and families. This role is pivotal in delivering culturally secure, family-centred healthcare in line with our paediatric model of care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate appointments with paediatric specialists (e.g., developmental paediatricians, dermatologists, audiologists, ENT, respiratory specialists).
  • Act as the primary liaison between families and healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation in Communicare.
  • Ensure cultural safety and adhere to best practice guidelines.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver quality care.

Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • Proven experience in paediatric health or developmental settings, preferably with Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander children and families.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the complexity of Aboriginal Child and Maternal Health issues and ability to case manage whilst performing clinical duties.
  • Strong organisational skills and project management skills with ability to see through continuous quality improvement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to collaborate within the team and broader Derbarl setting.
  • Strong sense of family centred advocacy and desire to participate in systems reform.

Desirable:

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
  • Relevant qualification with AHPRA registration as RN / EN or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner.

Other Requirements:

  • Current Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain)
  • Satisfactory National Police Clearance (issued within the last 6 months)
  • Valid WA Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel across Perth metro sites
  • Successful Pre-Employment Health Assessment

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.
