Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation, established in 1973, specialising in comprehensive primary health care. In 2022, we launched Derbarl Kids – a new way of caring for our children and young people from birth to 18 years old.
Derbarl Kids brings together comprehensive primary health care and developmental paediatrics in one place making it a holistic maternal and child health program. It was created to break down the barriers our families face when using various mainstream services, and to improve the health, education and social wellbeing of our children and their families.
This model is guided by Aboriginal ways of raising children for strong futures.

Derbarl Kids are currently seeking experienced and passionate paediatric allied health clinicians (Speech Pathologists/Occupational Therapists/Clinical Psychologists) to join our well-established team in delivering culturally safe, high-quality services for Aboriginal young people and their families across Perth.

About the Role
As part of our Allied Health team, you will play a vital role in case management & delivering specialised assessment, diagnostic and therapeutic services to young people accessing our paediatrician service.
This will be a Part-time Maximum term contract which expires 12 months from the start date.
You will be working on a team with Paediatricians, GPs, Paediatric Case Officers, Family Support Advocates, Aboriginal Health Practitioners and other Allied Health to ensure that services are effective, family-led and culturally appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
• Collaborate with our multidisciplinary team in delivering diagnostic assessments (including Autism and FASD)
• Provide assessments for Aboriginal children and young people, using culturally appropriate methods
• Deliver evidence-based, culturally appropriate therapy and interventions.
• Promote holistic care through collaboration with multidisciplinary team members, families, external agencies & community stakeholders.
• Engage and empower families through education, guidance, and culturally relevant resources.
• Lead quality improvement, program development and evaluation initiatives.
• Ensure a safe work environment aligned with Work Health and Safety (WHS) standards.
• Maintain a high level of knowledge and expertise in paediatric development with a focus on emerging research and best practices.
• Participate in and contribute to professional development opportunities, including workshops, seminars and conferences.
About you
Essential Qualifications:
• Degree in relevant allied health discipline from a recognised institution
• Current registration with relevant professional body, e.g. AHPRA or Speech Pathology Australia (SPA)
Experience and Skills:
• Experience working in paediatrics, especially with young people with developmental delays, neurodivergence and/or trauma
• Experience in diagnostic assessments (including Autism and FASD) is highly desirable
• Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal children, families and communities
• High-level cultural competence and knowledge of Aboriginal Health contexts
• Strong communication and team collaboration skills, whilst also being able to work autonomously

• Current Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel
