Description:

Position Purpose

At Saint Mary's Hospital, the Registered Nurse (RN) in the Main PACU delivers high-acuity post-operative care for patients recovering from complex surgeries performed in the Operating Room.

What You Will Do

  • Provide high-acuity care for patients recovering from trauma, cardiovascular, neurological, and other critical surgeries.
  • Manage Phase 1 and 2 recovery, ensuring safe emergence from anesthesia, stabilization, and transfer readiness.
  • Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and care teams to deliver advanced interventions and uphold perioperative standards.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Active RN license in the state of Connecticut.
  • The ideal candidate will have one or more years of PACU experience supporting inpatient surgical recovery.

Preferred

  • BLS/CPR certification (AHA or ARC)
  • ACLS and TNCC certification (support available post-hire)
  • Proficiency in ASPAN standards and guidelines.

Important Consideration

This role is not designed for new graduates or those seeking training for inpatient PACU nursing. Candidates must be able to function independently in the Main PACU, and their resumes must demonstrate expertise in ICU-level ventilated patient care, critical drips (e.g., vasopressors, sedatives), and strong assessment skills.
