About the role: The Packaging Lead is responsible for overseeing daily packaging line operations, ensuring production targets, quality standards, and safety requirements are consistently met. This role serves as the bridge between frontline associates and supervisors, providing hands-on leadership, coordinating workflows, and troubleshooting issues in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

This role is fully on-site in our new Mesa, AZ facility.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead daily packaging line activities and assign tasks to team members.
  • Ensure packaging orders are completed accurately, efficiently, and according to work orders, specifications, and SOPs.
  • Train and support packaging team members on proper procedures and equipment use.
  • Perform quality checks to verify products meet labeling, packaging, and quality standards before release.
  • Communicate with the Supervisor and Production team on staffing, materials, and workflow needs.
  • Help resolve issues with shortages, damaged materials, or incorrect components.
  • Verify product counts, batch numbers, lot numbers, and documentation for accuracy.
  • Maintain accurate production records and update documentation as needed.
  • Promote safety and maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work area.
  • Assist the Supervisor in monitoring team performance and providing feedback.
  • Coordinate line setup, changeovers, and material replenishment to maintain production flow.
  • Review daily packaging schedules and prioritize orders based on production and shipping deadlines.
  • Conduct first-piece and in-process quality inspections to confirm packaging meets specifications.
  • Provide hands-on training and process guidance to new and existing packaging team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1+ years of experience in manufacturing, packaging, or production preferred, with prior lead or training experience a plus.
  • Experience working in GMP or regulated environments (cosmetic, pharmaceutical, or food) preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to train others on standardized instructions.
  • Good communication and leadership skills.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing production priorities.
  • Ability to stand and walk continuously across the packaging line and production floor for the entire scheduled shift (typically 8-12 hours), with only standard meal and rest breaks; this is an essential function of the role.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry finished goods, cases, and packaging materials weighing up to 50-60 lbs, and to move materials using appropriate equipment.
  • Ability to perform frequent, repetitive hand and arm motions (assembling, labeling, inspecting, packing) when assisting the line or performing quality checks.
  • Ability to bend, reach, and twist to access packaging components, supply containers, and finished product at varying heights.
  • Ability to move quickly between packaging stations and lines to provide direction, training, and quality checks to team members.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination sufficient to assemble packaging components, operate packaging line equipment, and perform quality inspections.
  • Near vision sufficient to closely inspect products and packaging for quality, accurate labeling, lot numbers, and expiration dates.
  • Hearing sufficient to detect equipment alarms and communicate with team members in an environment with packaging line noise.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to varying temperatures, product odors, and equipment noise typical of a packaging line.
  • Ability to wear required PPE for the full shift, including safety glasses, gloves, hairnet, and slip-resistant closed-toe footwear.
  • Compliance with all GMP, SOP, and plant safety/OSHA requirements.
