Job Description:

Purpose

The Packaging & Label Manager is responsible for the management of packaging materials and product labels used for lubricant products. This role supports the reliable supply of products through packaging material planning, inventory management, supplier coordination, label and artwork change management, and master data maintenance.

The position also ensures compliance with applicable regulations and Shell Group requirements, drives resolution of quality and supply issues, and contributes to the continuous improvement of packaging and labeling processes.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage the supply and lifecycle of packaging materials used for lubricant products, including pails, drums, cans, cartons, and product labels, as well as related packaging artwork and labeling requirements.
  • Act as the primary interface with packaging material suppliers, coordinating on supply issues, delivery schedules, and operational matters.
  • Coordinate packaging material supply to lubricant manufacturing plants in Yokohama and Kobe, as well as toll manufacturing sites, ensuring continuity of supply.
  • Monitor packaging material inventory levels and minimize risks of excess inventory, obsolescence, and stock shortages associated with product launches, changes, and discontinuations.
  • Lead label and printed packaging revisions required for new product introductions, product changes, and regulatory updates, working closely with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Maintain and update packaging material and label master data in SAP and other relevant systems.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to investigate and resolve quality issues and supply disruptions related to packaging materials, labels, and printed containers.
  • Drive cost optimization and operational efficiency through packaging standardization and rationalization initiatives.
  • Ensure packaging materials and labeling practices comply with Shell Group standards, industry requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to packaging materials and label management processes.
  • Participate as an auditor in supplier audits for packaging material vendors.

Skills & Requirements

Essential

  • Experience in Supply Chain, Materials Management, Procurement, Production Planning, or Logistics within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong stakeholder management and coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively with suppliers and cross-functional teams.
  • Proven problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems, preferably SAP.
  • Strong communication skills in Japanese.
  • Basic business communication skills in English.

Preferred

  • Experience in packaging, containers, packaging material management, labeling, or manufacturing operations.
  • Experience in the petrochemical, lubricant, or related industries.
  • Knowledge of packaging-related regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Experience participating in continuous improvement initiatives, process optimization projects, or cross-functional projects.
