The Packaging Engineer is responsible for the development, industrialization, and handover of standard and type-bound packaging solutions in accordance with VCMS principles, lean methodologies, and VPDS deliverables related to the vehicle cycle plan and manufacturing targets.

What you'll do

Develop and implement packaging solutions for all vehicle programs supporting Tier 1 localized commodities within the region, regardless of the end user.

One-Way Packaging

Hand over packaging solutions to the customer and plant(s).

Upload and maintain accurate data in relevant systems, including VSIM and FLS.

Participate in program VBE activities.

Interact with part suppliers regarding packaging development, packaging solutions, and verification.

Collaborate with Purchasing (direct and indirect), plants, Packaging Operations, and other SCM functions regarding the development and industrialization of packaging solutions.

Verify packaging solutions with the involvement of all stakeholders (SQM, R&D, ME, IE, PSCE, etc.).

Participate in and request Gemba walks and benchmarking events.

Support Procurement with packaging cost estimates.

Implement packaging changes and upload all relevant information, including QOPs.

Develop and verify cost estimates for one-way packaging and type-bound packaging.

Escalate deviations related to timing, cost, and quality to the Packaging Coordinator.

Report all deviations in the VIRA system or other relevant systems.

Support Core Teams with concept studies.

Standard and One-Way Packaging (OWP)

Define packaging patterns (LC and UL) for standard and one-way packaging using the Packaging Assist tool.

Evaluate and confirm PIs from part suppliers for standard and one-way packaging.

Type-Bound Packaging

Lead packaging development activities for special packaging solutions.

Define technical specifications for special packaging as input to the RFQ process.

Conduct technical evaluations of RFQs for special packaging.

Interact with packaging suppliers regarding packaging availability and deliveries for type-bound packaging.

Support the calculation of loop days for returnable packaging.

Secure packaging availability to support series builds and ramp-up activities (TT and beyond).

Update parameters (cost, planning, and status) in PFEC and LEQM for returnable type-bound packaging.

Manage the TSU process for investment-related packaging.

Order special packaging in accordance with the IDP procurement process.

What you'll bring

Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Logistics, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

Experience using Teamcenter, CATIA, and other CAD software.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in packaging engineering and/or a related field.

Extensive project management experience, preferably involving cross-functional and international projects.

Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills.

Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Strong analytical and quantitative abilities.

Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.

Automotive industry experience required, along with experience in automotive packaging system design and implementation.

Positive, constructive, open-minded, and pragmatic attitude, with a strong drive for results.

Ability to identify opportunities for improvement and a passion for driving efficient logistics solutions.

Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining focus and quality.
