Job Description

Packaging Engineer

We are seeking a Packaging Engineer to help build, standardize, and improve packaging processes across a diverse product portfolio. This role will focus on creating scalable packaging standards, reducing product damage during shipping, and partnering closely with manufacturing and distribution teams to improve pack-out quality and efficiency.

This is a high-impact role with significant opportunity to define processes from the ground up and influence how products are packaged, protected, and shipped across multiple channels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement standardized packaging processes across manufacturing and distribution locations

  • Evaluate current packaging methods and identify opportunities to reduce product damage during shipping

  • Design and document packaging configurations and pack-outs for a wide variety of products

  • Work directly with plant floor teams to implement packaging standards and provide hands-on training

  • Partner with manufacturing and distribution teams to ensure packaging solutions meet operational and customer requirements

  • Support packaging for multiple shipping models, including direct-to-consumer, retail, and bulk shipments

  • Collaborate with engineering and automation resources to support packaging automation initiatives

  • Analyze opportunities to reduce packaging waste and improve material efficiency

  • Explore where returnable or reusable packaging solutions may be appropriate

  • Support packaging design using CAD tools as needed

  • Travel to manufacturing and distribution sites to support implementation and continuous improvement efforts

Required Qualifications

  • Experience developing or standardizing packaging processes in a manufacturing or distribution environment

  • Understanding of consumer products packaging and distribution center requirements

  • Hands-on experience with corrugated packaging and protective liners

  • Ability to work cross-functionally with operations, engineering, and supply chain teams

  • Willingness to travel approximately 30%, with heavier travel early in the role

  • Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with shop-floor personnel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience

  • Exposure to both manufacturing plants and distribution centers

  • Experience supporting or implementing packaging automation

  • CAD experience (e.g., SolidWorks or similar)

  • Familiarity with ERP systems

Travel & Location

  • Approximately 30% travel, primarily to U.S. manufacturing and distribution locations

  • Travel is expected to be higher during initial ramp-up and decrease over time

  • Role may be based near a manufacturing or distribution facility

Why This Role

This position offers a rare opportunity to build packaging standards from the ground up, work across multiple facilities, and make a visible, measurable impact on product quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
