Packaging Development Specialist

Purpose of the Job

The jobholder is accountable to lead and execute projects related to the development of new packaging materials, methods or technologies. Starting from the concept phase up to the implementation at industrial scale, delivering the project brief to ensure that the launch requirements are achieved. Such projects are mainly related to packaging innovation, cost reductions in packaging materials or of strategic value for the company. As an expert in packaging technology, the jobholder also lends technical assistance to other areas in the company.

What you’ll do

  • Lead Packaging Projects: Take ownership of all new packaging implementations for the BNL market, ensuring on-time, in-full delivery.

  • Project Management & Leadership: Oversee packaging development projects with hands-on involvement, ensuring clear communication and progress updates for all stakeholders.

  • Technical Feasibility & Profitability: Evaluate and validate new packaging materials and technologies, ensuring they are both viable and profitable.

  • Support Commissioning & Start-up: Provide technical expertise during the setup of new equipment and the launch of new packaging or technologies.

  • Continuous Improvement: Monitor industry trends, benchmark materials, and suggest enhancements for quality and cost efficiency.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with sales, commercial, brands, and innovation teams to support packaging feasibility and optimization.

  • Drive Sustainability: Champion sustainability initiatives by exploring and implementing eco-friendly packaging solutions.

  • Innovation & Best Practices: Identify, test, and standardize best practices, continually optimizing packaging processes.

Who you are

  • Educational Background: University degree in a technical field, preferably in Engineering or Packaging. Additional technical or business qualifications are a plus.

  • Language Skills: Fluent in English; proficiency in Dutch or French is an advantage.

  • Industry Expertise: Experience in an FMCG environment with strong technical knowledge of packaging processes, technologies, and materials.

  • Project Management: Proven experience in leading and managing complex projects, with strong organizational and negotiation skills.

  • Strategic Thinking: Strong analytical abilities, business acumen, and proficiency in presenting projects to senior management.

  • Leadership & Teamwork: Excellent interpersonal skills, able to lead teams and work effectively in a collaborative environment.

  • Flexibility & Mobility: Willingness to travel across Europe and take on short-term assignments in other regions when needed.

  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
