POSITION VACANCY POSTING #P-1824

TITLE: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF BROOKE COUNTY SCHOOLS ATHLETIC PROGRAMS

QUALIFICATIONS: A Master's Degree from an accredited institution, with a major in administration and/or supervision, with a WV principal certification for Grades 5-12, or be eligible for the internship license

REPORTS TO: Principal, Athletic Director and/or Superintendent/Deputy Superintendent or his/her designee.

JOB GOALS: To direct all activities normally associated with supervision and direction of athletic/student centered programs at Brooke High School/Brooke Middle School.

DUTIES:

? Attend all home athletic events and away events as deemed necessary by the principal or Athletic Director.

? Enforce rules and regulations as set forth by the WVSSAC and the OVAC.

? Attend WVSSAC and OVAC meetings as required.

? Dress professionally Brooke High School/Brooke Middle School attire to promote the presence of an Athletic Director during sporting events.

? Ensure all athletic coaches are properly outfitted with Brooke County Athletics gear.

? Provide scholarship materials and information to the parents of all athletes.

? Provide a meeting before the start of each sport to discuss projected rules, expectations, and sportsmanship, etc. to all coaches and athletes.

? Supervise & evaluate the coaches and athletic program in consultation with the principal/Athletic Director and superintendent.

? Supervise all athletic facilities (including the Wellness Center), schedule use of said facilities, and recommend maintenance and repair.

? Work collaboratively with the Maintenance Shop Foreman on all repairs, upgrades, renovations or changes to athletic facilities.

? Devise schedules for Wellness Center employees and lifeguards on a monthly basis.

? Check pool readings daily (pH, chlorine, etc.) as required by the West Virginia Health Department/Certified Pool Operator.

? Know and understand proper purchasing procedures as set forth by the state of West Virginia and Brooke County Schools.

? Issue purchase orders (PO's) when required; obtain the principal's and/or Athletic Director's approval prior to issuance (i.e. uniforms).

? Utilize the banking program and generate checks, when necessary.

? Establish a yearly budget for all sports and ensure that purchasing procedures are followed by all coaches and booster organizations.

? Inform the principal/Athletic Director and the Board of Education of athletic job vacancies as they occur.

? Arrange for an interview committee, develop interview questions, and make recommendations in order to fill any coaching vacancies.

? Collaborate with the Principal and/or Athletic Director concerning evaluations of the performance of all coaching personnel in accordance with Policy 5310.

? Student Athlete Discipline recommendations

? Act as a consultant to the principal/Athletic Director and coaches on matters pertaining to the athletic program.

? Hold yearly, mandatory meetings with all head coaches prior to the beginning of each season to keep them apprised of all matters pertaining to their athletic program.

? Schedule practice times and areas to be used as appropriate.

? Maintain a procedure to handle crowd control and behavior problems at events.

? Responsible for maintaining proper safety for all athletes and those in attendance.

? Assists with banquets and awards assigned by the principal and/or Athletic Director.

? Obtain a 1.999 and below GPA list from the principal in charge of Grade Quick and ensure that all head coaches verify that they have checked the list prior to the first practice.

? Ensure that all head coaches collect and submit eligibility forms and physical forms for all athletes prior to the first practice.

? Input and upload all eligibility information to the WVSSAC in order to certify individual athletes.

? Meet with individual coaches, when necessary, to discuss and resolve any issues that may arise (i.e. West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission (WVSSAC) rule infractions, etc.)

? With the assistance of the head coach, supervise the scheduling of varsity athletic events within the guidelines of the WVSSAC and Ohio Valley Athletic Conference (OVAC).

? Develop competitive junior varsity, freshman and middle school schedules with the assistance of the head coach.

? Arrange for officials and draw up officials' contracts as required by the WVSSAC.

? Make necessary arrangements for non-school facilities needed by the athletic program (i.e. golf courses, etc.)

? Apprise the principal/Athletic Director of all schedules in order to avoid conflicts and accommodate any special needs (i.e. early dismissal)

? Communicate cancelling of events with all head coaches, parents and staff. Use of social media to communicate cancelations.

? Coordinate with the transportation office in scheduling of bus transportation to and from all athletic events.

? Coordinate with the building principal/Athletic Director in scheduling starting and stopping time schedules for special program ceremonies and/or half-time programs.

? Coordinate with the building principal/Athletic Director in regard to press box operational schedule for football games.

? Schedule adequate personnel to ensure smooth operation of each home athletic event (i.e. ticket takers, ticket sales persons, etc.)

? Complete personnel assignment sheet following each home contest in order to meet payroll requirements.

? Communicate with the principal/Athletic Director, Maintenance Shop Foreman and custodial staff to ensure adequate coverage at athletic events for preparation, clean-up, and any other facility needs.

? Schedule security and medical personnel as needed or required for athletic events (i.e. security, medical personnel, etc.).

? Provide proper facilities and make proper arrangements for both home and visiting media wishing to broadcast or report on athletic events.

? Inform visiting teams and officials of the pertinent details of their participation (i.e. time schedule, dressing facilities, etc.).

? Disburse advance ticket sales to the opposing school and arrange for the collection of advance sale monies and remaining tickets prior to the game.

? Obtain information from visiting teams for inclusion in game programs (as necessary).

? Ensure adequate pre-game preparation of field and gym facilities (i.e. make sure fields are properly lined, make sure adequate team seating is available, make sure the P.A. system is in working order, scoreboard, etc.

? Validate and account for all passes used to attend athletic events at BHS.

? Ensure the completion of a ticket sale report form following each home contest and ensure that the monies collected are counted, verified, and properly deposited.

? Contact local media, as needed, to ensure that all upcoming events, cancellations, and special athletic events are made known to the public.

? Act as tournament director for all WVSSAC sectional or regional events or OVAC contests held at Brooke High and Middle schools.

? Perform other such duties as assigned by the superintendent, assistant superintendent or principal/Athletic Director as it relates to athletes.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be established by the Board of

Education. Extra-curricular position.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the West Virginia Policy 5310.

Salary based on experience and education level per CBOE salary schedule plus competitive benefits

package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation.
