Job Description

Our client, a well-established contractor in Ireland, is actively seeking qualified Overhead Linesmen to join their team in Kildare Applicants should have prior experience working on the Overhead Lines, with a qualification in OHL required. Successful candidates will start at the Newbridge Training Centre before being dispatched to various projects around Leinster and Cork, depending on location.

Key Responsibilities for Overhead Linesman Role

Installation and Maintenance

  • Install, maintain, and repair overhead electric lines, including catenary systems, contact wires, and supporting structures for rail electrification projects.
  • Ensure timely and efficient execution of installations in accordance with project schedules.

Safety Compliance

  • Adhere to strict safety protocols and regulations, ensuring a secure environment for team members and the public.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement appropriate safety measures during all phases of work.

Inspection and Testing

  • Perform routine inspections and systematic tests on overhead line equipment to preemptively address potential issues.
  • Use diagnostic tools to monitor system performance and ensure optimal functionality.

Fault Diagnosis and Troubleshooting

  • Identify and resolve faults in overhead line systems, addressing electrical or mechanical failures efficiently.
  • Implement immediate corrective actions to mitigate rail system performance issues.

Team Coordination

  • Collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and other team members to integrate overhead line work seamlessly with other components of rail projects.
  • Foster collaboration and maintain clear communication across multidisciplinary teams.

Equipment Handling

  • Operate and maintain specialized machinery such as cranes, cherry pickers, and lifting equipment for overhead line installations.
  • Conduct pre-use checks and ensure equipment safety and functionality.

Documentation

  • Maintain detailed records of inspections, repairs, and modifications, ensuring comprehensive documentation for audit trails.
  • Provide regular updates to supervisors or project managers regarding work progress and any arising issues.

Compliance with Standards

  • Ensure all work adheres to industry standards, engineering requirements, and project specifications.
  • Continuously update practices to comply with the latest standards and regulations.

Emergency Response

  • Respond promptly to emergencies involving overhead line failures.
  • Coordinate with emergency services and implement contingency plans to restore functionality quickly and safely.

Training and Development

  • Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance technical skills, knowledge, and safety practices.
  • Participate in training sessions and certifications to stay updated on advances in overhead line technologies.

Requirements:

  • Over 1 year of experience as an OLEC linesman.
  • Proficiency in repairing and inspecting overhead line systems.
  • Valid Safe Pass certification.
  • Current Manual Handling Certificate.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • First Aid certification is an added benefit.
  • Demonstrated track record with positive references.
  • Fluency in English.
