WSP Africa’s Power & Energy team is looking for an accomplished Senior Overhead Lines Design Engineer to deliver high-quality transmission line solutions across South Africa and international markets. This is an opportunity to lead technically complex projects, work with multidisciplinary specialists and help shape resilient energy infrastructure.

What you’ll do

  • Lead tower spotting and line profiling for 132 kV to 765 kV overhead line projects using PLS-CADD and the wider PLS Suite.

  • Deliver FEED, conceptual, detailed and execution-ready design packages.

  • Prepare and review line profiles, stringing charts, plan-and-profile drawings, tower schedules and construction inputs.

  • Optimise line routes and tower configurations for safety, cost, constructability and environmental performance.

  • Integrate survey, LiDAR, DEM and topographical data into design models.

  • Apply Eskom requirements and relevant South African and international OHL standards.

  • Provide technical input to tenders, proposals, client workshops and multidisciplinary design reviews.

  • Mentor junior engineers and designers while strengthening quality and technical delivery across the team.

What you’ll bring

  • A bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Structural Engineering.

  • At least three years’ overhead lines design experience.

  • Advanced proficiency in PLS-CADD; experience with PLS-POLE and PLS-TOWER is strongly preferred.

  • Experience applying standards such as SANS 10280, IEC 60826, EN 50341 and relevant Eskom requirements.

  • Professional registration as Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng, or registration as a candidate, is advantageous.

  • Strong analytical, communication, client-engagement and technical leadership skills.

  • Availability for local and international travel when required.

Why join WSP?

You’ll join a collaborative, future-focused team with access to local and international projects, opportunities to expand your technical influence and a culture that values its people, reputation, inclusion and accountability.
