Job Description

Outreach Worker (Move-On Accommodation)

Application Deadline: 19 July 2026

Department: Outreach

Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time

Location: Camborne, Pool & Redruth

Reporting To: Sarah Bassett

Compensation: £30,233 / year

As an Outreach Worker (Move- On Accommodation) you will support people experiencing or at risk of homelessness to move from crisis into safe, stable accommodation and towards independent living.

The successful candidate will be based in Pool, working from a move-on accommodation setting and providing support to clients residing there.

You will also be required to provide Outreach support from time to time to cover absence or during particularly busy periods across Redruth, Pool, Camborne and the surrounding areas. You will locate and engage with people sleeping out, sofa surfing and those at risk of becoming homeless, building positive relationships and providing advice and guidance on finding accommodation.

The role includes lone working in the community, requiring the ability to work independently, manage risk effectively and follow lone working procedures. You must be flexible as the exact location and hours of work may vary depending on the needs of the organisation.
Whether in move on accommodation, or accessing outreach, our clients don’t just need our help with housing. You will also ensure all client's basic needs are met and support them to access physical and mental healthcare, services to recover from dependencies on alcohol or drugs, relevant financial support and any other agencies they would like to link in with.
As part of the wider Non-Residential team, you will be expected to provide cover at any of our Resource Centres – currently the Truro Resource Centre and the Breadline Centre in Penzance.
Whilst regular hours are daytime Monday to Friday, Outreach can be a 7-day service. You will be required to work regular weekends (approx. 1 in 8 – subject to change) as well as occasional evening work as directed by the Outreach Service Manager. This will include providing support to St Petrocs’ emergency “Winter Service” during the colder months.
Interviews are expected to take place on Friday 24th July 2026.

Many of our staff work flexibly, including part-time. Please talk to us at interview about the flexibility you need. We can’t promise to give you exactly what you want, but we do promise not to judge you for asking.

What you'll be doing.

  1. Develop a professional relationship with move on residents to help them achieve their goals, e.g. future housing, training, employment, etc.
  2. Make contact and engage regularly with people who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless across Cornwall.
  3. Assess clients' support needs and work with them to develop, implement and review personalised support and safety plans that promote wellbeing and independent living.
  4. Encourage and assist all clients on practical matters relating to their claim for benefits, their search for permanent accommodation and resolving other problems which may be contributing to their homelessness.
  5. Liaise with external agencies, including ‘Health for Homeless’ healthcare services on behalf of individual clients to ensure they receive timely and appropriate care to meet their needs.
  6. Promote positive health attitudes among clients such as ensuring registration with a local G.P., etc.
  7. Promote the services and support networks provided by St Petrocs and other organisations.
  8. Assist clients to ‘move-on’ by liaising and working with the Homelessness Support team and completing a resettlement plan.
  9. Carry out practical tasks relating to the day-to-day efficient running of services, including obtaining household supplies and arranging repairs and replacements, etc.
  10. Ensure that residents are clear about arrangements for paying accommodation charges and ensure they are paid on a timely basis.
  11. Ensure that the resident’s rights and responsibilities are understood.
  12. Facilitate and create a welcoming and friendly atmosphere in the move on accommodation and encourage the participation and involvement of each resident.
  13. Maintain the cleanliness and security of services
  14. Ensure compliance with all relevant Health and Safety regulations, in accordance with our policies and procedures.
  15. Maintain efficient administration systems including case notes, accurate client records and completing accident reports whilst ensuring confidentiality
  16. Work in other areas of the service and carry out any other duties as reasonably requested.
  17. Attend events as a positive ambassador for St Petrocs, promoting and raising awareness of its services and inspiring existing and potential supporters
