Position Overview
The Outreach & Development Coordinator plays a highly visible, externally focused role within the Development department at Hospice of Humboldt. In close partnership with the Director of Development, this position actively supports and advances the organization’s fundraising, donor engagement, and community presence. The Coordinator also supports marketing and communications efforts, including donor materials, digital communications, website content, and social media, ensuring consistent and compelling messaging that advances fundraising and awareness goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Community Relations & External Outreach
- Coordinates and actively participates in community outreach efforts, including service clubs (Rotary, Kiwanis, etc.), presentations, tabling events, and community gatherings.
- Represents Hospice of Humboldt at third-party fundraisers, health fairs, Pint Nights, Round Ups, and similar outreach opportunities.
- Builds and maintains positive relationships with community partners, volunteers, and supporters to expand awareness and engagement.
Marketing & Communications
- Collaborates with the Director of Development and contract graphic designer to create and update fundraising and outreach collateral.
- Writes and supports development of e-newsletters, donor communications, and electronic media.
- Manages Hospice of Humboldt social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram.
- Works with the Director of Development to update and manage content on the agency website.
- Coordinates with other departments to support collateral creation and outreach needs across the organization.
Donor Engagement & Fundraising
- Actively supports donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts, through outreach and follow-up communications.
- Implements annual giving strategies in partnership with the Director of Development, including direct mail, appeals, and donor communications.
- Oversees donor acknowledgment, thank-you letters, tribute notifications, and stewardship processes.
- Supports grant writing efforts and manages documentation and data tracking for grant applications, reporting, and finance coordination.
- Coordinates and helps implement donor recognition activities and events with staff and volunteers.
- Leads coordination and implementation of the Business Sponsorship Program, including outreach to current and prospective business partners.
Program & Volunteer Coordination
- Coordinates the Light Up a Life campaign fulfillment process, including tracking sales, ordering supplies, and managing volunteer crews.
- Coordinates and oversees the work of Auxiliary Volunteers in collaboration with volunteer leadership.
- Monitors quilt inventory for the We Honor Veterans program and coordinates with quilt makers and volunteers for preparation and distribution.
- Manages the annual needs of the Heart of Hospice Brick Path, including donor coordination, ordering, installation logistics, and the dedication ceremony.
QualificationsSchedule Requirements
Occasional work during evening hours and on weekends to attend meetings/events is required.
Minimum
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience with community engagement, outreach, or relationship-building.
- Working knowledge of basic design principles and experience creating or updating marketing materials (print and digital).
- Experience updating or managing website content and digital communications platforms.
- Familiarity with social media management, email marketing platforms, and basic analytics.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including comfort in engaging with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow projects through to completion.
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and adjusting priorities to meet deadlines and ensure continuity of work.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Valid driver’s license, proof of acceptable automobile insurance coverage, and reliable transportation.
Preferred
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field.
- Experience in fund development, marketing and donor relations.
- Experience supervising or coordinating volunteers.
- Experience in nonprofit fundraising, including non-event-based fundraising and donor stewardship.
- Experience representing an organization at community events, donor meetings, or public presentations.
- Familiarity with content creation applications, including Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, etc.
