TRC is seeking an Energy Advisor to support JCP&L's Energy Solutions for Business programs in New Jersey. This Outreach Consultant II position combines the core customer engagement and pipeline responsibilities of Outreach with field-based technical capability to help commercial and industrial customers identify, evaluate, and advance energy efficiency opportunities.
The Energy Advisor will engage customers, contractors, Program Allies, and other market stakeholders; conduct preliminary facility walkthroughs consistent with ASHRAE Level 1 assessment practices; identify potential energy conservation measures; and help match viable opportunities to the appropriate JCP&L program pathway. The successful candidate will serve as a technical bridge between customer-facing Outreach and Engineering, strengthening front-end project qualification and helping customers move from initial interest toward actionable energy efficiency projects.
This is an Outreach role with enhanced technical capability and is not intended to replace Program Engineering. Advanced engineering analysis, final energy savings calculations, design, and formal technical application review remain with the appropriate Engineering resources. Success in this position requires a strong combination of customer engagement, technical knowledge of
commercial and industrial building systems, sound judgment, clear communication, and the ability to independently manage multiple opportunities.
The selected candidate must reside in New Jersey and be available for regular travel within their assigned territory.
Core Outreach Responsibilities
The Energy Advisor develops and manages relationships with JCP&L commercial and industrial customers, contractors, Program Allies, and other market stakeholders to increase awareness of and participation in Energy Solutions for Business programs. The role conducts targeted outreach to understand customer needs, planned facility improvements, operational challenges, and investment priorities; identifies and qualifies energy efficiency opportunities; and maintains consistent engagement to move viable opportunities toward project development and participation.
The Energy Advisor manages an assigned customer portfolio and pipeline, develops engagement strategies based on customer and sector needs, and maintains accurate customer, opportunity, and project information in Captures CRM. Success is measured not only by Outreach activity, but by the ability to develop qualified opportunities and help convert customer interest into participating energy efficiency projects.
Field Engineering & Energy Advisory Responsibilities
The Energy Advisor provides field-based technical support to identify, assess, and qualify commercial and industrial energy efficiency opportunities. The role documents baseline equipment, nameplate and operating information, schedules, observed conditions, and customer goals during site visits. The role conducts ASHRAE Level 1/walkthrough energy assessments, reviews available utility bills and interval data where available, evaluates existing equipment and operating conditions, and identifies potential energy conservation measures and equipment upgrades across systems such as HVAC, lighting, controls, motors and drives, compressed air, refrigeration, building envelope, and other applicable technologies.
The Energy Advisor helps match identified opportunities to appropriate program offerings, provides clear responses to technical and program-related questions, and prepares concise site summaries describing existing conditions, candidate measures, available supporting data, customer priorities, information gaps, and recommended next steps. The role explains program eligibility, documentation, and application steps to customers and contractors and collaborates with Engineering when opportunities require deeper analysis, savings calculations, design support, or formal technical review.
