Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Join our Venice Family Clinic's Common Ground Program and make a difference in the communities we serve as an Outreach and Prevention Specialist - Certified Phlebotomist. This role delivers both site-based and field-based services through the Common Ground mobile unit and on-site locations. This role supports harm reduction efforts by participating in syringe service programs and providing community outreach services.

Key Duties:

  • Conducts HIV, Hepatitis C and STI testing.
  • Provides counseling and education to clients on safe practices, overdose prevention, and harm reduction strategies.
  • Ensures that newly diagnosed clients are promptly referred and connected to appropriate medical care and support services.
  • Maintains strict client confidentiality while accurately completing data collection forms and compiling reports for monthly program evaluation.
  • Collaborates with team members to support program operations.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned within the HIV prevention and outreach program.

Our Common Ground Department provides comprehensive, client-centered services focused on HIV case management, benefits coordination, and community-based outreach, prevention, and harm reduction. Through an integrated approach, the department supports individuals at risk for or living with HIV by improving access to testing, care, treatment, and supportive services.

Programs within the department emphasize health education, risk reduction, and linkage to care, utilizing both site-based services and mobile outreach to meet clients where they are. The department is committed to reducing health disparities and promoting equitable access to care for underserved populations


Salary Range: $26.90 - $33.45 hourly


Job Qualifications

Required:
  • High school diploma and Phlebotomy certification from the State of California (CA CPT).
  • Experience with HIV, STI, Viral Hepatitis, substance use and mental health issues.
  • Valid California State Driver's License with ability to drive mobile units and complete mandatory trainings
  • Knowledgeable in safe sharps disposal and skilled in infection prevention
  • Experience supporting individuals with damaged veins
  • Demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail, time management skills, and ability to prioritize needs
  • Trauma Informed
Position is subject to the California DMV's "Pull Notice System" and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.

Preferred:
  • Experience in public health, outreach, and prevention advocacy
  • Bilingual verbal language skills in Spanish and English
