Lead a team of pharmacists and pharmacy staff in managing and providing outpatient pharmacy services to the community.
Essential duties include providing comprehensive patient care, strict security, control and accountability of controlled and non-controlled medication inventory, developing and educating pharmacy staff on policies and procedures, and ensuring compliance with current practice guidelines and all regulatory requirements, examples; Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP), Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), etc.
Educational Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS Pharmacy degree or higher.
An advanced degree (pharmacy or business) is desirable.
Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Completion of an ACPE or equivalent accredited immunization training program (e.g., APhA).
Completion of an ACPE or equivalent approved MTM training program (e.g., Outcomes).
Qualifications/Licensure
Currently licensed to practice pharmacy in state of Texas.
Certification/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Must have at least one (1) year experience in outpatient or retail or specialty pharmacy management.
Must be able to work independently, handle stress appropriately and work cooperatively with hospital and pharmacy staff.
Must be able to set priorities, make critical decisions, and respond quickly to hospital and pharmacy staff emergency requests.
Fosters a team environment by providing orientation and training to new team members.
Demonstrate strong leadership, verbal and written communication, presentation skills.
Proficiency in working effectively with patients and healthcare providers.
Competence in analyzing financial data to make informed business decisions.
Capability to manage a pharmacy, and pharmacy software systems.
Physical Requirements
Primarily works the day shift tour of duty; additional hours may be asked to work other hours as needed, including weekends.
May be expected to lift over twenty-five (25) pounds.
Ability to distinguish between numbers and symbols.
Hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity with substantial movement of wrist and/or fingers.
Walking and climbing to accomplish tasks.
Corrected vision and hearing to normal or near normal range.
Extended periods of sitting and/or walking depending on specific duties.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee outpatient pharmacy services and operations to ensure adequate patient care is provided and the pharmacy is compliant with regulations set forth by accrediting organizations and the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
Assist Director of Pharmacy in developing and maintaining productivity and quality metrics.
Utilize performance data to continuously monitor current state and recommend process improvements, as necessary.
Provide comprehensive patient care by processing, checking, and dispensing prescription orders; and offering vaccinations and advice about health issues, symptoms, and medications in response to customer inquiries.
Manage pharmacy inventory, pharmacy budgets, and statistical and financial reports.
Review monthly financial statistics and plan expenditures within budget guidelines.
Prepare and submit revenue/expense and financial reports to administration in accordance with hospital policy.
Administer reports, documents, payroll records, statistical surveys, and other required data.
Develop job descriptions and performance standards.
Recruit, train, educate, supervise, evaluate, counsel, and manage outpatient pharmacy staff.
Prepare work schedules, monitor workload statistics, and maintain appropriate staffing level.
Serve as a preceptor and mentor for pharmacy students and residents.
Oversee and participate in community outreach programs, encouraging associates to serve as active community members.
Perform all other tasks/responsibilities/projects as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy.
