General Description:
The Outpatient Pharmacy Technician III is an advanced-level role responsible for performing highly complex pharmacy technician duties involved in the preparation and distribution of medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. This role serves as a technical expert, mentor, and operational resource for Pharmacy Technician I and II staff and supports pharmacy leadership in optimizing workflow, compliance, and performance.

Executes advanced clerical and operational functions, troubleshooting complex adjudication issues, resolving escalated patient and payer concerns, and addressing workflow barriers.
Serves as the expert resource for all copay assistance and grant workflows, resolving highly complex cases and coaching Technician I and II staff to ensure consistency and compliance.
Expertly prepares, retrieves, and labels prescriptions with exceptional accuracy and efficiency, proactively anticipating workflow needs and preventing delays in patient care.
Oversees complex inventory management and purchasing activities, identifying trends, discrepancies, or risks, and recommending corrective actions.
Manages complex billing, reimbursement, and payer challenges with expert-level accuracy and provides guidance to technicians across all levels.
Leads and reinforces housekeeping, organization, and environmental safety standards within the pharmacy.
Leads by example in safety and compliance practices, identifying potential risks or trends and escalating concerns to pharmacy leadership.
Ensures proper storage and preservation of biologicals, vaccines, serums, and other medications requiring specialized handling.
Acts as the primary escalation point for complex third‑party issues and prior authorizations, providing troubleshooting expertise and coaching support.
Demonstrates advanced expertise in OUH’s patient assistance programs and traditional copay assistance workflows.
Demonstrates expert-level understanding of 340B program requirements and compliance expectations.
Supports medication therapy management (MTM) workflows as assigned.
Successfully completes advanced annual skills assessments and competency validations.
Serves as a primary mentor for Technician I and II staff, providing structured coaching, knowledge sharing, and performance feedback.
Identifies system-level opportunities for workflow, safety, or accuracy improvements and collaborates with pharmacy leadership to implement enhancements.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Associate’s degree required.
Experience: At least five (5) years of experience as a pharmacy technician required.
License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Active permit as a Pharmacy Technician by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy within 6 weeks of hire. National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Advanced cash handling and reconciliation skills.
Advanced pharmacy-related computer and math skills.
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong written and verbal communication skills adaptable to staff, leadership, and patient interactions.
Ability to interpret and apply complex policies, procedures, and payer requirements.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Strong customer service focus with advanced problem-resolution capability.
Proven ability to mentor staff and foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
