About the Role:

Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, provides efficient coordination of filling and dispensing of out patient pharmacy prescriptions and aids in the daily operation of the department. This position will care for patients in the child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups. Employee performs clinical duties in accordance with population specific guidelines.

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Licensure or other certifications: Current registration with the Georgia Board of Pharmacy. First attempt of certification exam should be completed within six months of hire. Certification must be obtained by the third attempt or at 12 months of hire.

  • Educational Requirements: High School Graduate or GED . Current registration with the Georgia Board of Pharmacy.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Manage the ordering, receipt, processing, and distribution of pharmaceuticals to ensure efficient departmental operation. Communicate regularly to appropriate ordering source the amount of medication required to maintain pharmacy inventory and handle current prescription volume. Select the most cost effective medication whenever possible to maximize the cost savings of the pharmacy. Compare invoice with drugs accepted, to ensure correct amount has been received. Distribute newly received medications to proper storage areas. Manage regular inventory and return excessive stock to maintain adequate pharmaceutical inventory.

  • Assist pharmacist in preparation of prescriptions. Enter new prescriptions into the computer system. Recall refills from the computer database to prepare prescription labels for filling.Select appropriate medication from pharmacy inventory to fill or prepare the prescription. Correctly counts the amount of medication to fill the prescription. Prepare the container with appropriate warning labels and prescription label for medication.

  • Assist pharmacist in serving the customers and meeting their needs. Operate cash register and reconcile sales with money on hand.Organize workload for the pharmacist to provide a minimum wait time for the customer.Follow all rules of telephone etiquette to ensure effective communication. Maintain insurance/counseling log in compliance with state and federal regulations.

  • Contribute to the productive and efficient operation of the department. Check and record refrigerator temperatures daily when pharmacy is open.Complete extra projects that enhance the department’s productivity during low workload days. Perform other duties as assigned. Serve as Long Term Care technician as needed.Volunteer and assist as needed during staffing emergencies and other occurrences that create unusual staffing needs.

  • Train pharmacy personnel. Provide constructive feedback to appropriate supervisor or manager on employee performance.

  • Complies with department and NGMC policies and procedures.

  • Responsible for fully reading and complying with department email(s) (i.e. communications) upon receipt from such communication. Review email at a minimum of once per shift.
