Cleveland Clinic’s Digestive Disease Institute specializes in medical and surgical treatments for disorders related to the gastrointestinal tract. As an Outpatient Clinical Care Assistant, you will provide or assist with basic patient care activities supervised by an RN or LPN. Some of the daily duties of an Outpatient Clinical Care Assistant include completing vitals, rooming intake, specialized testing based on the needs of the visit, completing questionnaires, and, within scope, assisting providers.

A caregiver in this position will work 8:00am to 4:30pm or 7:30am to 4:00pm. No weekends, holidays or evenings required.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Complete the rooming process, including vitals, height, weight, and completion of intake questions, documents, and reports abnormal findings to RN or LIP.
  • Collect patient specimens, perform Point of Care Testing, and prepare specimens for transport to lab.
  • Prepare patients for exams, tests and procedures and assists with exams, treatments and procedures using sterile technique as applicable.
  • Assist with procedures such as EKG, Holter monitor application, pulse oximetry, hearing and vision screening, and disinfection and sterilization. Assist with wound care under the direction of the LIP.
  • Perform patient treatments as directed, to include the application of heat or cold, simple sterile dressing changes, and application and removal of casts, braces, and splints.
  • Review printed instructions with patients.
  • Document in the electronic health record and assists with management of in-baskets and closure of care gaps.
  • Assist with setting up the clinic for daily operations and closing clinic in accordance with departmental guidelines.
  • Stock supplies and linens as applicable. Cleans, monitors expiration dates and restocks dressing supply cart, checks AED units and oxygen tanks, and empties needle boxes using appropriate safety measures.
  • Collaborate with health care team members to promote patient care delivery and overall functioning of the department.
  • Participate in department meetings and performs duties in an independent and assertive manner under the direction of an RN and/or LIP.
  • Initiates CPR and other emergency measures as required.
  • Perform administrative or clerical duties as assigned, including filing, reception, scheduling, data entry, patient outreach and patient registration.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross
  • One year recent health care experience in a hospital, ambulatory, homecare, assistant living, nursing home or long-term care setting

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Proficient in the use of electronic medical records

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
  • Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
