Objective

Manage the daily and long term efforts required to operate the shooting range.

Essential Job Duties

  • Ensure the safety of employees and customers.
  • Analyze firing range trends, create schedules, and inventory firearm and archery equipment.
  • Enforce Department policies and procedures and ensure compliance with such policies.
  • Monitor fiscal budgets and departmental spending.
  • Identify maintenance needs and perform necessary repairs on equipment.
  • Develop and conduct training classes, clinics, fairs, hunts, and other events.
  • Recruit and select, monitor performance, recognize achievements and provide appropriate disciplinary actions for staff.
  • Oversee permit applications, and instructor and student certification testing.
  • Perform routine administrative duties such as reviewing and approving time sheets, monthly purchasing card statements, invoices, vehicle logs, etc.

Ancillary Job Duties

  • Serve on internal regular and special committees.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Biology, Environmental Studies or related.
  • At least three (3) years of relevant professional experience.
  • Must maintain a current, valid driver’s license.
  • Classroom training/education experience preferred.
  • Firearms and firing range operation experience required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to use office equipment, such as copier, multi-line phone system, fax machine, scanner, and computer.
  • Ability to operate vehicles, ATVs, tractors, mowers, power tools, etc.
  • Excellent customer service, as well as, oral and written communication skills.
  • Public relations knowledge.
  • Time management and organizational skills.
  • Business writing/proofreading ability and typing skills.
  • Accounting and human resources knowledge.
  • Ability to travel and stay overnight.
  • Ability to work varying shifts and hours.
  • Ability to build and sustain positive working relationships.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment.
  • Regularly required to perform in outdoor conditions, where climates may be hot, cold, wet and/or humid.
  • Regularly exposed to loud noises which may require the use of hearing protection.

Physical Abilities

  • Remain in a stationary position 70% of the time.
  • Move about grounds, both inside and outside of buildings.
  • Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information.
  • Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more.
  • Three-dimensional vision- ability to judge distance and space relationships.
  • Regularly lift up to 5 pounds, correctly lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

Exemption Status/Special Notes

This position has been determined to be Exempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Act. Employees must agree to accept compensatory time in lieu of cash payments in accordance with the Department's Compensatory Time Off and Overtime Policy.

Salaried and hourly employees are expected to use a mobile device-cellular phone for Department business, as needed.
