Job Description

The Outage Management Specialist within the Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS) Reporting & Analytics group is responsible for supporting distribution reliability reporting, analytics, the Outage Management System (OMS) dashboard, and various outage management tools. This position performs analytics and designs reporting solutions that support outage management, distribution reliability, and regulatory compliance. The role leverages multiple operational data sources (e.g., ADMS, smart meters, SCADA, asset data, and enterprise databases) to develop scalable analytics, automate reporting processes, and deliver actionable insights that improve system performance and operational decision-making.

This individual develops and maintains reliability reporting (including SAIDI, SAIFI, and CAIDI), supports regulatory filings and rate case discovery, and ensures the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of outage and performance data across systems. The role also includes the development of dashboards and visualization tools, along with collaboration with IT on database management, system enhancements, and OMS-related applications.

The position partners cross-functionally with ADMS Systems, Distribution Operations, Engineering, Regulatory, and IT teams to support ADMS patch releases, storm response analytics, Estimated Time of Restoration (ETR) modeling and validation, and customer-facing outage communications. Additionally, the role contributes to continuous improvement initiatives by integrating new data sources, enhancing analytical capabilities, and supporting evolving grid modernization and analytics platform efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and support end-to-end analytical solutions for outage analytics, storm analysis, reliability performance, and regulatory compliance

  • Develop and deliver daily, monthly, and ad hoc reliability reporting, including SAIDI, SAIFI, and CAIDI metrics, as well as historical outage trending and benchmarking

  • Support KPI development and tracking for distribution reliability KPIs

  • Support regulatory reporting and compliance requirements for distribution reliability data

  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and integrity of reliability data used across the organization

  • Develop, test, and maintain dashboards and analytical tools to provide actionable insights into system performance

  • Propose enhancements and continuously improve reporting and visualization capabilities

  • Perform reporting and analytics using data from multiple sources (e.g., ADMS, SCADA, EMS)

  • Conduct business-specific research, analyze and interpret data, and develop actionable recommendations

  • Provide oversight of BIM data integrity, maintenance, and development

  • Assist IT developers with database design and modifications using tools such as TOAD

  • Collaborate with IT to support OMS dashboard releases, including documenting enhancements, identifying issues, and participating in testing activities

  • Analyze outage and asset data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement

  • Provide analytical support to Distribution Operations, Engineering, and Regulatory teams

  • Support rate case discovery and other regulatory data requests

  • Provide analytical support during storms and major outage events

  • Support ETR analysis and related processes

  • Ensure outage information provided to customers is accurate and consistent across external platforms, including websites, alerts, IVR, mobile applications, and social media

  • Support the external outage website and related customer communication tools

Qualifications

Advanced / Senior Outage Management Specialist:

REQUIRED:

  • Associates degree in an engineering or IT related discipline.
  • In lieu of a degree, must have a minimum of 5 years-experience in one of the following fields or a related discipline; IT, DCC/TCC operations or Engineering.
  • Demonstrated a strong commitment to teamwork.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across organizations to form consensus.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems.
  • Understanding of various distribution equipment and the operation of the electrical distribution system.
  • Thorough understanding of the FirstEnergy Manual of Operations and the APH.
  • Excellent computer skills; Microsoft Office, NMS, GIS, EMS/SCADA and other internal systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Understanding of the FirstEnergy storm restoration process.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage several projects/assignments at once.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Results focus with attention to detail

  • Ability to multi-task, strong bias for action, is a self-starter
  • Willingness for occasional travel within the United States and the FirstEnergy footprint

HIGHLY PREFERRED:

  • Project and process management skills

  • Skilled in the development, collection, organization, and analysis of information from a variety of sources and the ability to apply the information to solve problems.
  • Familiarity with the FirstEnergy SCADA (EMS) system and its components is a plus.
  • Related work experience and knowledge of Distribution System Operations a plus.
  • Knowledge of other FEU systems, GIS, ADMS, Experience with database query tools (TOAD, SQL)
  • Experience with PowerBI
