OT Data Integration Lead (Unified Data Platform)
The OT Data Integration Lead designs and operates the secure, governed flow of plant data from control and manufacturing systems into AdvanSix’s Unified Data Platform (UDP). This role bridges Operations Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT)—covering historians so that Operations, Reliability/Maintenance, HSE, Quality, Supply Chain, and Engineering have trustworthy, near-real-time data for analytics, ML, and agentic automation. You will set patterns, lead integrations, and coordinate closely with plant controls teams, Cyber/IT, the UDP engineering team, and system owners.
Mission
Deliver safe, reliable, and observable OT-to-enterprise data connectivity that:
1. Decouples control networks from analytics (no direct control-net reads) using broker/DMZ patterns,
2. Produces high-quality, well-modeled time-series and events (assets, batches, phases, alarms) for the UDL, and
3. Meets security, compliance, and uptime requirements without impacting production.
Core responsibilities
Architecture & Connectivity (OT→DMZ→IT)
• Own and evolve the enterprise reference architecture for secure, scalable OT-to-IT data integration across plant systems, DMZ layers, and the Unified Data Platform
• Provide architectural oversight to ensure all integrations align with enterprise design principles and future analytics/AI needs.
• Define and govern enterprise standards for OT data integration, including protocols, data models, security, and data quality.
• Create reusable onboarding patterns, templates, and playbooks to enable consistent, scalable integration across sites.
•
• Define and operate defensible architectures for OT data egress: OPC UA servers, MQTT/AMQP brokers, data diodes/one-way gateways, and DMZ nodes; prohibit direct control-network access.
• Design store-and-forward and buffering strategies to protect control systems and ensure data continuity during outages.
• Standardize onboarding patterns for new plants/units (network zones, firewall rules, certificates, endpoint hardening).
Time-Series & Event Modeling
• Build/oversee extraction from PHD/PI historians, DCS/PLC/SCADA, LIMS, and lab instruments; implement event frames (batches, phases, grade changes), alarm/event streams, and equipment hierarchies (asset models/AF).
• Condition signals (resampling, dead-banding, interpolation, outlier/sensor validation), apply units/calibration metadata, and align to production calendars and ISA-88/95 structures.
• Publish contracted schemas into the UDP (landing → curated → semantic) for consumption by Power BI, APIs, and ML.
• Design reusable industrial data products (assets, batches, KPIs). Enable semantic layer readiness for analytics and AI workloads
Reliability, Security & Compliance
• Implement observability: freshness, gap detection, tag quality/availability, schema drift; build dashboards and alerts; own on-call runbooks and incident response for OT data flows.
• Enforce ISA-62443/ISA-99 controls with Cyber/IT (RBAC, credential vaulting, patching, vulnerability remediation).
• Lead and document MOC/change control, outage coordination, and pre-/post-validation with plant teams.
• Define SLAs/SLOs for OT data pipelines. Implement automated data quality scoring and lineage tracking
Collaboration & Delivery
• Partner with plant controls, process engineering, Reliability/Maintenance, and HSE to prioritize tags, events, and KPIs.
• Work with the Manager, Unified Data Platform & AI Engineering to land curated OT data with lineage/DQ and with the Reporting & BI team to certify datasets.
• Guide vendors (historians/SCADA integrators) with clear DoD, acceptance tests, and knowledge-transfer milestones.
• Act as the single thread leader for OT data integration across plants. Drive roadmap and prioritization across OT, IT, and business stakeholders
Required qualifications
• Minimum 7 years' in OT/controls or OT data integration across DCS/PLC/SCADA and historians.
• Experience delivering production-grade data pipelines and working with enterprise data platforms (e.g., UDP, Lakehouse)
• Hands-on with Honeywell PHD and/or AVEVA PI (interfaces/connectors, AF/asset models, event frames).
• Strong knowledge of OPC UA, MQTT (Sparkplug B a plus), Kepware/Ignition or equivalent gateways/brokers.
• Proven experience implementing DMZ/broker architectures, firewall rules, certificates, and no control-net reads designs.
• Time-series conditioning and event modeling; exposure to ISA-88/95 and batch/phase concepts.
• Scripting and data tooling: SQL, Python (validation/utilities), and comfort with Windows Server services.
• Familiarity with SAP S/4HANA data touchpoints and LIMS integrations for sample results and quality events.
• Working knowledge of security frameworks (ISA/IEC 62443), least-privilege, secrets/cert management.
Preferred qualifications
• Experience with Azure OT ingestion patterns: IoT Edge, Event Hubs, Kafka, Databricks/Fabric streaming.
• PI AF/EF or PHD equivalent asset/event modeling at enterprise scale.
• Knowledge of alarm rationalization (ISA-18.2), sensor validation, calibration workflows.
• Exposure to HSE/EMIS systems and environmental reporting data.
• Certifications: ISA-62443, CCNA-Industrial, or vendor historian credentials.
The base salary range for this role is $118,800 to $178,200 annually.
