Job Description

TEKsystems is seeking an OSP Design Tech for our Boise Idaho client.

Our client is expanding their OSP Engineering group due to significant project growth and increasing sales volume. The team is currently operating as a bottleneck for incoming work and is adding multiple OSP Design Technicians to increase project capacity.

  • Compensation and level will be determined based on experience and qualifications.
  • This is a full time, direct placement position with our client

This role supports outside plant telecom projects including city and state roadway relocations, utility relocations, aerial and underground fiber construction, and ongoing network expansion initiatives. The position combines design work, field engineering, documentation, contractor coordination, and construction support.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop OSP construction drawings and design packages utilizing Microsoft Visio and other telecom design tools
  • Interpret staking sheets, roadway blueprints, permitting documents, and methods-of-construction requirements
  • Perform field surveys and site inspections to support design and construction activities
  • Maintain accurate outside plant records and project documentation
  • Support engineering, permitting, and construction processes from project initiation through completion
  • Inspect contractor work and verify compliance with project requirements and standards
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, municipalities, and internal stakeholders
  • Recommend construction solutions based on field conditions and engineering requirements
  • Assist with route maintenance and network expansion activities
  • Support aerial and underground fiber deployment projects
  • Participate in utility relocation and roadway move projects as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of Outside Plant (OSP) telecom engineering or design experience
  • Experience supporting telecom construction and field operations
  • Ability to read and interpret:
  • Staking sheets
  • Construction drawings
  • Permitting documentation
  • Methods of construction
  • Right-of-way documentation
  • Experience working with Microsoft Visio
  • Working knowledge of CAD systems or telecom design software
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fiber optic network design experience
  • Utility relocation or road move project experience
  • Knowledge of RUS standards
  • Experience supporting permitting and construction processes
  • Field engineering experience
  • GIS experience
  • Project lead or contractor coordination experience
  • Telecommunications construction background

Work Environment

  • Approximately 50% field / 50% office
  • Travel up to 20% depending on project workload
  • Occasional overtime, evenings, weekends, and holiday work may be required

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $62400.00 - $72800.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
