Fabricates orthoses or prosthesis as delegated by the lab supervisor, consistent with department scope of practice.
Create positive plaster molds, strip negative casts, thermoform plastic, cutout, grind and smooth plastic for orthoses or prostheses.
Contour, drill, polish metal work for devices and add closures as requested. Sewing materials as required and assist practitioners on a PRN basis as needed.
Fit patients with shoes or fabricate shoe lifts
Track and order materials for inventory and manage equipment
Cares for and comes in contact with infants, toddlers, preschool, and school age patients
Interface with all clinical and lab staff regarding application of varied techniques to produce the most technically advanced and functional O&P devices.
Contribute to the training of residents and students as assigned
Perform all duties of the production assistant as needed
High school degree or equivalent required.
Certificate from an ABC recognized O&P school, or a minimum of one year’s applicable technical experience required.
Must have sufficient knowledge and capability to fabricate all types of orthoses or prostheses as directed by the lab supervisor
Must possess excellent interpersonal communication and problem solving skills
