The role of the Orthopedic Technician is to provide casting, splinting, and DME services to the patients of Bone and Joint Institute of Tennessee.

Position Requirements:
Formal Education / Training:
High School diploma or equivalent, required. Clinical background or Athletic Training education preferred. Must be versed in anatomy. Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapy Techs, Personal Trainers, and all allied health professionals encouraged to apply.

Workplace Experience:
At least one year of experience in a medical setting with some prior orthopedic technician or similar experience is preferred.

Equipment and Skills Training:
This position requires a fundamental knowledge of technical work with orthopedic devices, bracing, casting, and splinting. Clinical work is performed under the general supervision of a licensed patient care professional. Competent in the use of standard medical office equipment and medical supplies including computers with appropriate medical software, facsimile machines, copying machines and telephones.

Physical Environment:
Orthopedic medical practice office.

Physical Effort:
Stooping, turning, bending, squatting, kneeling and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds; constant/repetitive standing; requires normal, correctable vision and hearing, and the ability to accurately discern color as necessary to perform job functions. Ability to read, write and effectively communicate in English.

Key Results:
Fit patients for Durable Medical Equipment (DME) as directed by Physician, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner.
Applies casts using a variety of materials including plaster and synthetic casting materials and high and low temperature plastics.
Provide proper patient education regarding the appropriate use of all casting, splinting, and DME related items.
Performs appropriate documentation as related to casting, splinting, or DME related device as directed by physician, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant resident or Registered Nurse.
Responsible for oversight of charges on DME related items that are entered into the electronic medical records system.
Proper use of inventory management systems to manage product levels across all locations.
Assist in wound care, suture removal, staple removal when applicable in the clinic.
Triage/multi-task based on needs and priority of a high-volume clinic.
Cleans and stocks all working areas to optimize efficiency. Cleans general equipment according to guidelines.
Communicates effectively with patients/families and the clinical team in a manner that promotes positive working relationships.
Maintains work area and personal appearance in a way that reflects professionalism and demonstrates to our patients, visitors and coworkers the importance we place on cleanliness, orderliness and safety.
Duties also include any other requests from the Orthotech Manager, Orthotech Coordinator, CEO, Clinical Manager, Providers, and Patients that included problem solving, critical thinking, and ensuring the patients are always satisfied.
