Are you separating from the military or looking for your next mission? ASRC Federal System Solutions (AFSS) is seeking skilled Orbital Arc Weld Spacecraft Technicians to support NASA's Orion Program at Kennedy Space Center, Florida.
If you have experience as a military welder, aircraft structural mechanic, metals technician, pipefitter, fabrication specialist, or aerospace maintenance technician, your skills may directly translate to supporting the next generation of human space exploration.
Help build the spacecraft that will return astronauts to the Moon and enable future missions to Mars.
What You'll Do
• Perform orbital arc welding and precision fabrication in support of the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV).
• Fabricate, assemble, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain spacecraft components and associated ground support equipment.
• Set up and operate tube fabrication equipment, including tube benders, cutters, facers, and deburring tools.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, work instructions, and 3D models.
• Perform precision measurements using calipers, height gauges, scales, and other inspection tools.
• Conduct alignment checks and make mechanical adjustments and modifications as required.
• Support corrosion prevention and treatment activities on metallic components.
• Fabricate and install sheet metal components and peelable shims.
• Safely operate fabrication shop equipment, including band saws, chop saws, grinders, and drill presses.
• Complete production documentation using Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
• Identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and productivity.
Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent with specialized technical training, technical associate degree, or equivalent experience.
• Five (5) or more years of relevant technical experience.
• Military technical training or vocational training is highly valued.
• Minimum of two (2) years of vocational, military, or technical field experience.
• U.S. Citizenship required to meet contract requirements.
• Must be able to successfully complete a government background investigation and pre-employment drug screening.
Desired Experience
• Experience with AWS D17.1 or comparable fusion welding and orbital tube welding specifications.
• Experience working with thin-wall tubing alloys, including stainless steel (CRES), Inconel, and Titanium.
• Experience using precision measuring equipment and mechanical fabrication tools.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with experience assembling, repairing, or maintaining complex systems.
• Ability to work from technical drawings, engineering documentation, and detailed work instructions.
