Job Description

Our School Services Division provides a range of school support services to students in more than 100 non-public and charter schools throughout the Delaware Valley.

We are currently seeking an Orientation & Mobility Specialist for the 2025-2026 school year.

Full-time, 10-month position (part-time options may be available)

In addition, as an O&M Specialist your duties will include:

  • Assessing the functional abilities of students to determine program suitability and propose recommendations for treatment and appropriate assistive devices
  • Collaborating with students, parents, educators, and other professionals to provide services and resolve challenges in compliance with established program guidelines; responding to inquiries from parents, teachers, students, and others as needed
  • Instructing students in the use of various equipment and resources (e.g., tactile maps, models, low vision devices, adaptive mobility devices, tablet and mobile phone apps, etc.) to minimize adverse impact of visual impairments and help students reach their highest level of independence
  • Training support staff, parents, and others to support students’ independent movements and to incorporate orientation and mobility techniques into daily classroom and home routines
  • Maintaining accurate and complete documentation for each student (e.g., service plans, progress reports, activity logs, billing information, etc.); ensuring compliance with all program guidelines and that documentation is readily available for audit/inspection at all times
  • Other relevant duties as assigned or required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in low vision education required; Master’s degree preferred
  • PA Department of Education Instructional certification in vision instruction and certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist
  • Experience as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist strongly preferred
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain positive rapport with students and productive working relationships with parents, teachers and other staff
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
