Wausau Tile is seeking a Material Handling & Packaging Specialist who is hardworking, safety-conscious, and quality-driven. The ideal candidate will thrive in both team environments and independent settings with minimal supervision. This role is essential to ensuring that raw materials and finished products are properly handled, staged, and shipped in accordance with production timelines and quality standards.
The primary shift is 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with flexibility to work 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM as needed to cover vacations or absences.
Key Responsibilities:
Material Handling & Staging:
Retrieve and stage materials from indoor inventory and outdoor yard storage.
Operate forklifts and bobcats to transport and position materials.
Perform inventory transactions using MES (Manufacturing Execution System).
Perform routine equipment inspections and minor maintenance on material handling equipment.
Product Loading & Packaging:
Load outbound trucks, flatbed trailers, and containers with finished products securely.
Band, wrap, and label pallets, and record data in the computer tracking system.
Use electric floor lifts and forklifts to move products between workstations and staging areas.
Assist in the setup and adjustment of packaging lines, including boxing units and palletizers.
Perform manual lifting and team lifting when handling large or heavy materials.
General Duties & Safety:
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area, including housekeeping tasks such as sweeping and cleaning workstations.
Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including PPE usage and equipment safety checks.
Take responsibility for personal and team safety, working closely with supervisors and the Safety Director.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, production paperwork, and spec sheets.
Proficiency with measuring equipment and basic hand tools.
Mechanically inclined and comfortable operating forklifts and other heavy equipment.
Basic computer skills for data entry and inventory tracking.
Flexible and dependable with a strong sense of responsibility and urgency.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, lifting, and reaching.
Ability to lift and move items up to 50 lbs. in all directions.
Repetitive movements involving hands, wrists, back, knees, shoulders, and neck.
Capability to ascend/descend ladders and stairs when required.
