Job Description

The team, position & mission:

Orange Business is looking for an experienced Oracle Database Consultant to join our Database Department in Oslo, delivering and operating mission-critical database services for private and public sector customers across Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server and related technologies, with a main focus on Oracle environments supporting some of Norway’s and Sweden’s most business-critical systems.

In this role, you will design, operate, maintain and improve Oracle database platforms for internal and external customers, ensuring high availability, performance, security and compliance across the full database lifecycle, from architecture, installation, configuration, patching and upgrades to backup and recovery, tuning, troubleshooting, automation and operational excellence.

We are looking for a customer-focused consultant with strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills and the ability to own complex challenges, mentor colleagues, lead technical initiatives and drive improvements in close collaboration with customers, project teams, architects and infrastructure specialists.


Your key areas of responsibility as a Oracle Database Consultant:

  • Resolve complex incidents, own problem management activities and lead root cause investigations in line with agreed procedures and SLAs.

  • Design, review and implement customer change requests, database improvements, installations, migrations, upgrades, patching and maintenance activities.

  • Administer and optimize Oracle Database environments, including performance tuning, capacity management, backup, recovery and disaster recovery solutions.

  • Manage Oracle High Availability solutions such as Data Guard, GoldenGate and related technologies.

  • Collaborate with customers, architects, project managers and internal technical teams on projects, service improvements and technical transformations.

  • Conduct health checks, proactive assessments and technical reviews while driving automation, standardization and operational efficiency.

  • Ensure database security best practices, vulnerability remediation, CVE follow-up and compliance across environments.

  • Mentor junior colleagues, share knowledge and contribute to service development and strategic improvements within the database practice.

As an ideal candidate you have:

You are structured, service-minded and passionate about high-quality solutions, with strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities and extensive experience in enterprise database environments.

Moreover, you should have:

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator, Database Consultant or equivalent.

  • Strong Oracle Database administration expertise in production environments, including Oracle Database 12c, 19c and newer versions, Data Guard, RMAN, Oracle Enterprise Manager, performance tuning, SQL optimization, patching and upgrades.

  • Experience with Linux/Unix, scripting and automation tools such as Shell, Python, Ansible, Terraform or similar.

  • Good understanding of database security, compliance and hardening practices.

  • Experience from cloud, hosting or managed services environments is an advantage, and additional database technologies such as PostgreSQL, MySQL or Microsoft SQL Server are beneficial.

  • Strong customer-facing skills and experience working directly with enterprise customers.

  • Fluent Norwegian and English, both written and spoken.

Security requirements

Due to the nature of some of our customer engagements, the successful candidate must be eligible to obtain Norwegian security clearance. A background check may therefore be conducted as part of the recruitment process.
