Job Description

Primary Scheduled Hours: Per Diem, 10 hour shifts

Pay Scale: Compensation within the posted range will be determined based on relevant experience and internal equity considerations.

Job Summary: Assists the surgeon during operative and invasive procedures. Ensures the operating suite is adequately prepared for procedures. Cleans and sterilizes surgical instruments. Takes call as assigned.

Essential Job Functions:

• Interacts professionally with patients and family, providing explanations and verbal reassurance as necessary.
• Prepares the room in a timely manner with all anticipated instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment.
• Demonstrates competence in care of specimens.
• Assists in positioning, prepping, and draping patients for surgical procedures.
• Accurately completes operating room counts (instruments, sponges, needles).
• Carries out medical/surgical asepsis during treatments/procedures.
• Checks all equipment/instruments needed prior to each procedure to ensure proper functioning.
• Sets up, scrubs, and prepares for procedures at least 15 minutes prior to scheduled time.
• Passes instruments and supplies to the surgeon during the procedure.
• Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures and after the last case.
• Follows written procedures for steam sterilization.
• Completes documentation within shift, meeting current standards, policies, and procedures.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Education Background and Experience Requirements

Minimum Education (Attested)

Minimum High School diploma or equivalent; graduate of a Surgical Technology program

Required Licensure / Certification

Surgical Technologist Certification (CST, NBSTSA) or Registered Surgical Technician; current BCLS Certification; call is required for this position with a 30-minute response time.

Professional Requirements:

• Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and clean.
• Completes annual District-required and/or job-required educational requirements.
• Maintains regulatory requirements.
• Wears identification while on duty.
• Attends staff meetings monthly and/or reads and returns all meeting minutes (as per department/contract standards).
• Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
• Maintains employee/patient confidentiality.
