ENT caregivers care for the ears, nose, throat and so much more. The ENT also has surgeons who offer both nonsurgical and surgical treatments to help patients with many conditions that affect the ears, nose and throat. And at Cleveland Clinic, we embrace a team approach.As an Operating Room Service Assistant, you willassist in transporting patients and setting up the Operating Room.

A caregiver in this position works 6:00AM – 2:30PM

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Maintain surgical instrument sets and equipment and ensure proper sterile conditions.

  • Provide limited assistance to surgeons (holding limb/retractors, suctioning, sponging wound).

  • Clean used instruments after surgery (this process may require assembly and maintenance of some instruments for proper cleaning and sterilization).

  • Ensure proper sterile conditions, order supplies, stocks, and maintain storage areas in the Operating Room for service.

  • Assist in transporting patients.

  • Assist RN (Registered Nurse) in maintaining a safe environment for the patient.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High school diploma or GED.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Sterile processing certification.

  • Two years of experience in sterile processing.

  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn service-specific surgical instruments, equipment and surgical procedures.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

  • Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull, and navigate supply carts weighing up to 200 pounds.

  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

  • Requires working under stressful conditions of working irregular hours.

  • Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
