Job Objective:
Performs support activities for the surgical team in the care of the surgical patient.
Education:
Required: High school diploma, GED or higher level degree if hired after April 1, 2025
Preferred: Successful completion of accredited Surgical Technology training program or associate’s degree with a major in natural sciences
Licensure/Certification:
Required: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
Preferred: Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST or TS-C)
Experience:
Preferred: Experience in Operating Room, Sterile Processing, working in materials management or direct patient care

Essential Responsibilities
1. Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
2. Coordinates and delivers complete case carts to Operating Room (OR) suites for patient procedures
3. Assists with inventory counts, supply outdates and maintaining accurate supply PAR levels; restocks warmers, rotates fluids and checks expiration dates; delivers supplies and instruments to OR suites.
4. Provides orientation and competencies related to sterile core activities.
5. Checks case carts in a timely manner for readiness and completeness.
6. Reads, understands, and assists in updating preference cards.
7. Picks sterile supplies, suture, and instruments stored in core.
8. Keeps sterile storage in center core in good working order.
9. Assists in keeping the core survey-ready at all times
10. Collaborates with Sterile Processing Techs assigned to case picking and Supervisor-Central Sterile Processing to facilitate items needing turn-over for to-follow cases.
11. Collaborates with the surgical team to achieve safe efficient patient care.
12. Coordinates early release of instruments in the event of an emergency.
13. Handles and transports patients, supplies, surgical specimens, blood and equipment as requested.
14. Assists in pre-op patient readiness to include but not limited to patient prep and clip.
15. Assists in holding patient extremities for surgical preparations as directed.
16. Ensures positioning devices are available in the appropriate rooms for cases.
17. Completes errands and relays messages as directed.
18. Collaborates with Environmental Services to perform turnover duties between cases, which include cleaning medical equipment following manufacturer IFUs.
19. Assists nursing team by opening sterile supplies as directed.
20. Maintains aseptic technique according to the policies and procedures of Surgical Services.
21. Ensures appropriate equipment and positioning aids are placed in rooms in preparation for surgical cases.
22. Maintains patient and medical staff confidentiality as well as HIPAA compliance.
23. Contributes to maximum efficiency of the surgical schedule by facilitating on-time case starts and efficient, timely turnovers.
24. Performs other duties as assigned.
