Job Description

Appleton Eye Associates is seeking an Optometrist to join its well-established, community-focused team serving patients across Newburyport and several North Shore communities in Massachusetts. With a long-standing reputation for compassionate care, modern technology, and quality eyewear, this is an excellent opportunity for a new graduate or experienced optometrist looking to build a rewarding career in a supportive, patient-centered practice.

Why join us?

Appleton Eye Associates is a long-established, community-focused practice with roots dating back to 1972 and a strong reputation for providing trusted, comprehensive eye care across Massachusetts. Based in Newburyport with additional locations in North Reading, Hamilton, Ipswich, Gloucester, and Amesbury, the practice has grown from two locations to six while continuing to invest in advanced technology and expanded services, including comprehensive health and eye exams, specialty contact lenses, IPL therapy, and dry eye management. With a mission to positively impact the quality of vision for patients in the community, Appleton Eye Associates offers the opportunity to join a collaborative team of experienced and newer ODs who bring diverse specialties and perspectives to patient care. The practice’s deep community connections, including leadership involvement in local civic, hospital, and financial organizations, have helped build lasting trust with patients and community leaders alike, creating a meaningful opportunity for an optometrist who wants to make a difference while growing with a respected and forward-thinking practice.

What you'll do:
In this role, you’ll provide comprehensive eye care for a diverse patient base, including routine exams, contact lens fittings, diabetic eye exams, glaucoma management, dry eye therapy, and specialty care. You’ll use advanced technology, including Optos and Essilor retinal imaging, state-of-the-art visual field testing, OCT-A, and IPL therapy, to deliver precise diagnoses and personalized treatment plans. With multiple practice locations and flexible part- or full-time opportunities ranging from 8 to 32 hours per week, you’ll care for approximately 10 to 16 patients per day while collaborating with opticians, technicians, and administrative team members to create a seamless, compassionate patient experience.

Who you are:

You’re a licensed Optometrist in good standing with TPA certification, strong communication skills, and the ability to multitask in a busy, patient-centered environment. You’re confident caring for patients of all ages and visual needs, including conditions within the full scope of your license, and you value collaborative co-management with local MDs when appropriate. The ideal candidate is passionate about delivering exceptional eye care, staying current with advancements in optometry, and contributing to a positive team culture while helping the practice continue to grow its reputation as a trusted community resource.

Why you'll love Newburyport:
Located on Massachusetts’ North Shore where the Merrimack River meets the Atlantic Ocean, Newburyport offers the charm of a historic coastal city with a vibrant downtown, scenic waterfront, local shops and restaurants, arts and cultural attractions, and easy access to outdoor recreation. From walks along the harborside boardwalk and visits to nearby beaches and parks to community events and year-round New England scenery, it’s an inviting place to live and work. With additional practice locations in North Reading, Hamilton, Ipswich, Gloucester, and Amesbury, this opportunity also offers the chance to serve patients across several distinctive Massachusetts communities, each with its own local character and strong sense of community.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Optometry license in Massachusetts
